The Samoan Werewolf!
Jacob Fatu is an American professional wrestler of Samoan descent currently signed to MLW since 2019. He also competed in GCW and The Crash.
Trained by his uncle Rikishi, he made his wrestling debut in 2012 and competed in the independent circuit prior to joining MLW. He still takes independent bookings in selected promotions, but not as frequent as before due to his current contract.
Fatu is best known as a former member of the Contra Unit, and with it, he won the MLW World Heavyweight Championship, with the longest reign in the title's history at 819 days before losing to Alexander Hammerstone in Fightland 2021.
Recently, Fatu formed the Samoan SWAT Team alongside with Lance Anoa'i (his real-life cousin) and Juicy Finau.
Samoan SWAT Tropes
- Acrofatic/Death from Above: Hits a devastating Moonsault as his Finishing Move. Not a regular moonsault, mind you: he does it Christopher Daniels BME style. He can also pull off moves like Jeff Hardy's Whisper in the Wind and can regularly do Fosbury Flops.
- Arch-Enemy:
- Badasses Wear Bandanas: Wore them when he first appeared, though for some reason he eventually abandoned them. He has been wearing them again since Battle Riot III.
- Bash Brothers: Aside from other members of the Samoan Dynasty, his most constant tag partner on the independents is his Warbeast partner/Contra Unit leader The Almighty Sheik/Josef Samael.
- Beard of Evil: He has a rough, curly beard to match his wild appearance.
- Black Sheep: In MLW, Jim Cornette referred to him as one for the Anoa'i family. It is said that while many in his family were trained in the confines of the family's renowned training facilities, Fatu took a different path. Seeking out a riskier, more nefarious journey that took him around the world, Fatu's violent voyage would see him learn various fighting styles. Be it his tenure as an enforcer in Shanghai or the muscle for Japanese underbosses, the stories are endless… and most supposedly true.
- The Brute/The Dragon: When he was in CONTRA Unit. While he leaves cutting promos and planning attacks to Samael, he at least has the second most clout in the group and is a damaging force to be reckoned with inside the ropes.
- Catchphrase: "Hail Contra", back when he was part of the Contra Unit.
- Defeating the Undefeatable: Ended Barrington Hughes' nearly 2 year undefeated streak in the promotion. He also ended LA Park's streak in the revival and also gave Mads Krügger his first loss.
- Dreadlock Warrior: He wears his hair in dreads to add to his intimidating appearance.
- Early-Bird Cameo/Early-Installment Weirdness: Appeared in 2018 Spring Break event interfering in the unsanctioned match between Low Ki and MVP and was set to face MVP at The World Championship Final event representing Black Friday Management, though for some reason it didn’t happen and he disappeared, officially debuting a year later with the CONTRA Unit.
- Heel–Face Turn: Turned against the CONTRA Unit in War Chamber 2021, followed by the crowd chanting "Fatu". He remains as a Face since then.
- Kleptomaniac Hero: He and the Samoan SWAT Team decided to steal every single object from Cesar Duran's office.
- Lightning Bruiser: For a guy his size, he’s as quick (in small doses) and light-footed as he is powerful.
- Power Stable: The former dominant force behind Contra Unit.
- Power Trio: The leader of the new Samoan SWAT Team in MLW.
- His Warbeast team on the independents once consisted of himself, The Almighty Sheik/Josef Samael and Brody King before King left.
- Red Baron: "Samoan Werewolf", "The Samoan Smashing Machine" (a probable Shout-Out to his uncle Umaga), "The High Chief of the Hood".
- Screaming Warrior: In the ring, Fatu occasionally utters either a wordless battle cry or a shout of "Hail CONTRA!"
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Renounced Contra Unit after the 2021 War Chamber match fallout.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: When he gets on the mic, he seemingly cannot end a promo without swearing at least once.
- Stout Strength: A 300 pound Samoan wrestler with a strongman's build.
- Wild Samoan: Subverted. He is Samoan, is wild and certainly fights like one, but is not a wild Samoan so much as a Wild Man with a werewolf motif.
- Wrestling Family: A member of the massive Anoa'i Family, specifically the son of the The Tonga Kid.
