This animated series based on the Underground Comic The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers by Gilbert Shelton, follows the adventures of three hippies from 1969, Phineas T. Freekers (Pete Davidson), Freewheelin' Franklin Freek (Woody Harrelson), and Fat Freddy Freekowtski (John Goodman) and their cat, Kitty (Tiffany Haddish) find themselves in the 2020s after smoking a peculiar batch of weed that they obtain from a guru while attending the Woodstock Festival and falling into a Convenient Coma for 50+ years.The three Freaks and Kitty are now Fish out of Temporal Water trying to figure out the crazy world of technology, political correctness, and legalized dope, while living with the Switzer family, who just happen to live in the house that was built where the Freaks' hippie crash pad used to be in the Haight-Ashbury district.
The series premiered in November 2021 on the streaming service Tubi.
The Freak Brothers provides examples of:

- Epic Fail: The pilot episode has the Freaks travelling to the Woodstock Festival in New York in order to get one of the ingredients for the "ultimate high". Except Freddy, who was put in charge of buying bus tickets, ended up getting ones for Woodstock, Georgia instead, and it wasn't until after spending the next two days there wandering around a peach orchard that they finally realized they were in the wrong state. Phineas is less than pleased about it as it caused them to miss most of the festival and got him an ass full of buckshot when the orchard's owner eventually chased them off.
- Cat/Dog Dichotomy: Kitty and Chomsky in a nutshell.
- Denser and Wackier: When you compare it to the original comics, this show is way more comedic in nature.
- Family of Choice: The Switzers and the Freaks who are kind of Adopted to the House.
- Gender Flip: The Freak Brothers' cat (now named Kitty) is depicted as a girl here rather than as a boy like in the source material.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Bob Pimko is an obvious parody of Stephen Hawking
- Granola Girl: Gretchen.
- Henpecked Husband: Noah.
- Older Than They Look: The Freaks somehow managed to not age physically after 50 years.
