“Get Rich Quick” is a 1951 Classic Disney Short directed by Jack Kinney, starring Goofy.

Goofy, here referred to as George Geef, has a gambling problem. From one-armed bandits to back-alley crap games, to the horse races to "friendly" poker games, Geef is always looking for the next big score. If only he could keep it hidden from Mrs. Geef...

Tropes:

  • The Alleged Steed: The horse George bets on at the racetrack turns out to be a measly nag, at least from what we hear, who finishes dead last, much to George's dismay.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • After gambling in a dice game, George walks out of the alley seemingly wearing a barrel as if implying that he bet all his money and had to bet his clothes as well. He then calls for a taxi and reveals that the barrel is full of cash he won.
    • George appears to be giving his money to a bank clerk window, but then he hears a PA announcement about the races about to begin and he rushes out; the camera pulls back to reveal that he was actually putting money down on a horse race.
  • Bankruptcy Barrel: George appears to be wearing a barrel after the dice game, but in reality, he's carrying all his winnings in the barrel.
  • The Blank: During the poker game, all the other players have their "poker faces", meaning they have no features other than their dog noses. They suddenly appear when George accidentally reveals his hand.
  • Bowdlerise: The opening scene when George Geef gambles with other people in his office is cut out of the short for some tv airings, mainly due to the Asian stereotype. Some tv airings also cut the ending scene short, skipping the portion when Mrs. Geef is thrilled that George brought home the bacon.
  • Downer Ending: George is beaten by his wife for gambling and has his money taken from him.
  • Easy Come, Easy Go: Quoted by the narrator when George presumably loses the dice game in the alley. Later quoted by George when his wife confiscates his winnings.
  • A Fool and His New Money Are Soon Parted: George wins big a big game in poker and is wise to call it quits before losing that money. However, Mrs. Geef hogs all the winnings for herself.
  • The Gambling Addict: George Geef spares the time risking his hard-earned dough to make an easy buck.
  • Henpecked Husband: George is beaten and chastised by his wife for gambling his money away. Then he has his money taken by her.
  • Hypocrite: Mrs. Geef angrily chastises George for gambling. Then she is suddenly thrilled that George brought home the bacon and feels proud that he won. She then confiscates the winnings to use on herself.
  • Ironic Echo: After George gambles in a dice game in the alley, the narrator remarks, "Easy come, easy go!" This is repeated by George at the very end.
  • Manchild: George throws a tantrum after the horse he bet on finished dead last. The French dub even has him sobbing uncontrollably.
  • Oh, Crap!: Just as he wins the game of poker, George suddenly realizes how late it is. He promptly leaves for home hoping his wife wouldn't notice.
  • Revised Ending: In "Goofy's Salute to Father," this short is used to represent Goofy's bachelorhood, so it ends with him losing the poker game instead of winning.
  • Sore Loser: George doesn't win everything he gambles at and you can't expect him to accept the lost. He especially gets into a fuss after losing his bet at the racetrack.
  • Stepford Smiler: After the horse he bet on loses the race, George tells a friend named Al that he's doing "swell"... then throws a tantrum on the ground.
