It's Over For Me is a fan webcomic series made by VineBunny696 about Just Shapes & Beats, with its first chapter following the events of the game's DLC, "The Lost Chapter".

On the day of Cyan's birth, the guardian Cube explores a cave to ensure the safety of the territory. The Sun forgets to inform Cyan of this when they approach her home, so Cyan must make a dangerous venture to rescue her.

The first part of the comic can be read on Deviantart here, and its second part can be read here.

See also Lost in Blue (VineBunny), a spinoff comic which features characters from a different JSAB fan-comic.

It's Over For Me provides examples of:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Captain and Helicopter refer to each other with short versions of their names, "Cap" and "Helico".
  • The Blank: Cyan has no facial features except for his eyebrows.
  • Born as an Adult: Implied. Although Cyan's age isn't said, he's developed enough to be The Hero since the day he was born.
  • Cassandra Truth: Cube and Cyan discover pieces of the Tree of Life in the cave, which puzzles them as to how that could be when the Tree is on the surface. When they relay their findings to Sunny after their escape, he doesn't believe them.
Cyan: Cube! Tell him about the artifacts! He does not believe that it was right here and that the Tree of Life was dismantled!
Sunny: Of course I don't believe you, because I was here all this time, and you came out only now! And the Tree was safe. Are you hallucinating from shock?
  • Close on Title: There is no cover or title panel at the beginning, only after the first chapter's Sequel Hook do the words "It's Over For Me. End of Part 1." show up.
  • Color-Coded Speech: The color of the text for whoever is talking tends to match the color of that character. Some characters, such as the guardians and Sunny, have personalised brackets surrounding their sentences too.
  • Creepy Cave: The first chapter takes place in a treacherous cave that Cyan has to rescue Cube from. The walls are covered in jagged rocks, and pink crystals dangle from the ceiling, which later fall and awaken the monster residing there. Sunny declares the cave to be off limits after they get out so no one else gets hurt.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: Helico is so furious at Captain for even considering having Cube married off to the monster that she flies above his head to kick him, with blue cross-popping veins floating by her head.
  • Dressed to Plunder: Downplayed. Captain, who is the Boat, wears clothes which compliment a pirate theme, such as an eyepatch and a Hook Hand.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: The Sun and Cyan are initially confused why Cube isn't at home. When Cyan asks the Sun where she could be, he explains that Cube last spoke about paying a visit to the cave, before the realisation dawns on him and he cries while apologising to Cyan since he will have to rescue her.
  • The Face of the Sun: The sun is a jovial fellow referred to as Sunny, who saw to Cyan's birth and announced to Cube that she will be Cyan's caretaker. Implied to be an authority figure of sorts, he was meant to introduce Cyan to Cube until the latter had to be rescued from the cave.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: Captain and Helicopter exchange ideas on what features would make an appropriate suitor for Cube, and their words appear to link to what the other is saying. Helico is peeved at the answer that Cap leads her to.
Cap: Yes, you're right. We need someone not from here.
    Helico: And taller.
    Cap: And stronger!
Helico: Someone who doesn't care what others think.
    Cap: WITH HORNS AND CLAWS!
Helico: YES! HORNS AND- Wait. What? ARE YOU CRAZY?! DECIDED TO MARRY OUR CUBE TO A BEAST?!
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Cyan yells out to Cube that the monster is already near their position. Cube doesn't hear him clearly and replies "What did you said? (sic)" right before the monster appears before her.
  • Flight: Helico, who is the Helicopter, can fly with propellor-like wings which float behind her back.
  • Friend to All Children: Cube gets along very well with children. She calls a class of young kids to play with her and lets them cling to her and her giant claws, which is a relief to Captain, who had enough of the kids drowning him in hugs. He remarks to Helicopter about Cube's skill with children, and she tells him about Cube's dreams to start her own family.
Captain: Who would have thought that the strongest guardian would also be good dealing with children.
  • Fun Size: By default, the comic's artstyle anthromorphises some of the game's characters, their respective base shape is turned into a head on a humanoid body. In some scenes involving brief action or montages, however, they look like their original appearances from the game.
  • Healing Hands: Implied. When Cyan reaches out to the body pieces of a bird, his hand and the pieces glow, and they reassemble themselves into a healthy bird that leads him to Cube.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Cyan tells Cube to let him go so he can fly into the vortex to stop it, and Cube reluctantly does so. He beats the final level and lives.
  • Hidden Eyes: Cube dismisses herself from the group after a child mentions the missing person Lycan. As the other guardians explain to the kid that Lycan was Cube's closest friend and she's hurt from his disappearance, half of Cube's shadowed face looking down, lacking any features, can be seen in one panel.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The game lacks official names for its characters. Here, the hero's name is Cyan, his blue square friend is Cube, the sentient boat and helicopter are now anthromorphised and respectively called Captain and Helicopter, and the pink monster from the cave is named Blixer.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Cyan survives falling from a great height in the cave with no visible injuries. He's surprised that he's still alive and remarks that Sunny wasn't lying about him having invulnerability.
  • Non-Human Head: Several characters appear more humanoid than in the game, and the guardians and Cyan's original designs are made into the head of the body. Cyan has a square for a head, Captain has a boat for a head, Cube has a cube for a head and Helicopter has a helicopter for a head.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Implied for Blixer. He's hostile after his dormant state is disturbed, and everyone's quick to call him a monster, but Cube is the first to know his name simply because she asked. When Cube says she hopes they can become good friends and holds his hand, he gently closes his larger hand around hers, not that he can do much else when his arm is stuck in crystal though.
  • Oh, Crap!: Blixer is puzzled to see a guardian in his territory, which distracts him from seeing a spider cutting the ropes holding the crystals above him. Blixer's last expression before the crystals land on him is a shocked look towards Cube.
  • Oh, My Gods!: Cyan, overjoyed to find Cube, exclaims, "Thank Tree, I found you!" After he breaks Cube out of her cage, he introduces himself to her, and upon learning that he is the hero to be assigned to her, Cube hugs him tightly and says, "Good Tree, Cyan, it's really you?!"
  • Pocket Dimension: The game levels are worked into the comic's story. A square-shaped portal is the way to a "pocket level" where Cyan must get past obstacles for a song's duration to obtain a piece of the Tree of Life's power to solve problems, such as breaking Cube out of a cage and clearing a blocked cave exit.
  • Sequel Hook: The first chapter ends with Cube looking behind her into the cave from a distance after Sunny says no one else can visit the cave anymore, with Cyan and Sunny's voices fading out of her hearing. Despite the order, it's strongly implied that Cube will see Blixer again.
  • Shipper on Deck: When Cube sees Helico and Captain arguing, she thinks to herself that they look cute together and even lightheartedly envies them, since Cube wants to start a family of her own.
  • Spikes of Villainy: The cave monster has claws, sports a spiky choker, wristbands and shoulder pieces, and his arms consist of spiked floating circular shapes. Even his speech bubbles and written roars are jagged. This befits him being hostile to the protagonists when he's awoken, although how villainous he is has yet to be seen.
  • Stealth Pun: The brackets surrounding Cube's words are square brackets.
  • Symbol Swearing: A cave spider, annoyed at Cyan for wrecking its web to fetch an artifact, messes with him while exclaiming in angry symbols.
  • Tears of Joy: Cube weeps with a wide smile when Sunny announces the birth of a hero that she will be the caretaker of, because Cube is deeply interested in starting a family, despite the fact that, as a guardian, she cannot breed. Helico says to Captain that she never saw Cube so happy before, and that Cube's prayers appear to have been answered, but Cube is still only a nanny to the hero, not a mother.
  • Tempting Fate: It appears to Cyan that all is well, after the monster is trapped and he's passed the level to break open the cave exit on the first try. He says, "Everything should be alright now." as the last artifact flies to the sky. However, the three artifacts then make a vortex which threatens to suck everything towards it, leading Cyan to stutter, "O-o-or not!"
  • Time Skip: A year has passed between the events of Part 1 and Part 2.
  • Vow of Celibacy: Implied. The guardians "cannot breed" (either they're physically unable to or their duty disallows it). Two of the guardians, Helicopter and Captain, discuss that the other residents of Paradise, being the religious fanatics they are, are unlikely to find a suitor in Cube.
Captain: But hey! She can still find a partner here in Paradise!
Helicopter: Seriously, Cap? Do you think any of these religious fanatics have the guts to ask Cube out on a date?
