Webcomic / Lost in Blue (VineBunny)

Go To

Lost in Blue is a Just Shapes & Beats fan webcomic by VineBunny696, likely serving as a stand-alone in the same continuity as It's Over For Me.

Cube is playing hide-and-seek with the birds in the forest when she encounters a crying child, who explains that he was with his brother before he lost his way. Cube agrees to help him find his brother, but when it gets dark and the search remains fruitless, Cube decides to have him spend the night at her house while she continues the search in his sleep.

The child is Rave, the younger brother of Cuda, both of them are somehow teleported from the world of Close to Your Heart, another JSAB fan-comic, to the world of this comic. Lost In Blue also serves as a gift to Afrothunder678 and VanillaBella, the former of whom is the creator of Close To Your Heart.

The comic can be read on Deviantart here.

Lost In Blue contains examples of:

  • Another Dimension: Strongly implied. Rave mentions the other Cube from his world, but since he never met her, he mistakes the Cube in this new world as the same guardian from the legend he learned from Cuda, though it helps that both Cubes are guardians of legend. In contrast, Rave notes that while this Cube lives in a small house, the Cube from the legend is said to live in a palace with four guardians protecting a great treasure.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Cuda and Rave are reunited, but the former never gets to thank Cube for helping Rave reunite with his younger brother.
Cuda: She didn't even let me thank her...
  • But Now I Must Go: A variant. Cube lets Rave run towards Cuda to reunite with him, saying that she'll show herself after he calms down, but when Rave wants his brother to see Cube, she's gone. All that's left is a gift for Rave and a letter to Cuda, explaining that she can no longer accompany them and that they should return to their world as soon as possible since their presence in another world could be dangerous.
  • Color-Coded Speech: Cube's speech is blue, with her sentences starting and ending with square brackets. Rave and Cuda's speech are both in pink, with Cuda's words having a dark outline while Rave's words have a light outline. The Sun, although not a major character, has his behaviour of "*yawn*" and "*happy sleepy noises*" in yellow text.
  • Crossover: Cuda and Rave from Close to Your Heart somehow end up in the world of a different JSAB fan-comic (likely that of the same continuity as It's Over For Me) after walking through a strange cave that sends them to Another Dimension.
  • Cyclops: Cuda and Rave, both one-eyed triangle-headed shapes.
  • Extreme Close-Up: The perspective closes in on Cube's eyes as she listens to a bird reporting a strange sighting in the woods to her, which indicates Cuda's presence. She looks increasingly serious up until the last panel where she opens her eyes, one of them appearing like a gear.
  • High Collar of Doom:
    • Subverted with Rave. Cube is initially puzzled to find a pink shape on the surface (implying that pink shapes are also typically seen as monsters in this world) and Rave sports a black collar which covers a third of his face's height. However, he's just a harmless child.
    • Downplayed with Cuda. He still has his black tall collar, but none of his world-dominating ambition is visible when he's worried over his brother's safety. Cube still avoids meeting him, with the written concern that he and Rave being in her world could spell danger.
  • Mad Eye: As Cube heads back out to continue the search for Rave's brother, a bird tells her about the odd snake of triangles it found in the forest. As Cube deduces it to be Cuda's, she starts looking serious, with one of her eyes being much wider as it gains a gear-like appearance, much like her counterpart in the original game during the "Close To Me" boss battle.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: The birds are good friends of Cube, they invite her to a game of hide-and-seek, and help search the area for Rave's brother during the night, chirping their findings back to Cube.
  • Split and Reunion: The plot is about Cube helping Rave find his brother Cuda, as they got separated after arriving in a different world. It ends with the brothers reuniting the following day, but before Cuda can even meet Cube, she disappears.
  • Super-Strength: Cube effortlessly lifts a boulder that one of the birds is hiding behind.
  • Trail of Bread Crumbs: After searching for Rave's brother all day with no results, Cube leaves clues to lead him to her and Rave. On a tree are markings of a triangle next to an arrow pointing at a house, illustrating that Rave could be found at Cube's home.
