"Is the afterlife... the only place where I truly belong?"
Youta Yokata

Bone to Blades is a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Fan Webcomic by AlgebraFalcon, MildlyAnxious and SkyTheOtherGuy It started in November 29, 2020, and it's the Spiritual Successor to JoJopolis.

We're in Japan, in the year 1910. After saving an old man's cargo of cherries, Youta Yokata ends up being adopted by his family, the Higashikata. Unfortunately, he soon ends up being arrested for assassinating the emperor; after escaping, he decides that the only way out of this mess is to find the real culprit. Thus, together with his "siblings" Yasuke and Dekki, he must embark on a long journey, all while avoiding the assassins sent by the emperor's son, Prince Niwashi.

It can be read on Webtoons, here.

Bone to Blades provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: Youta Yokata.
    • According to Norisuke, Youta's real name might be Jordan Joan.
    • The real name of Tiger Eyes counts too: Yoko Yokata
  • All There in the Manual: The ability and origin of Amoung The Sef are only fully explained in the character profile
  • Art Initiates Life: Dekki's Holy Spirit, "Paint It Black", allows her to create Youkai by drawing them in the air.
  • BFS: Mr. Z Wields a sword almost as tall and wide as he is.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Yoko Yokata and Yama
  • Brought Down to Badass: After Youta absorb's Yoko's swords, she can no longer use Ride The Blue Limbo's abilities of time displacement. She is still strong enough to cut a man in half with her bare hands.
  • Confusion Fu: "The Man Comes Around" is an automatic Holy Spirit that can manifest signs with rules written in it, which everyone around - user included - must follow. The "Confusion" part comes from the fact that the user doesn't decide which rules will appear; a "higher power" does. The user can, however, deactivate the ability whenever he wants.
  • Dead Guy Junior: Youta is named after Yoko's Ret-Gone firstborn son
  • Four Is Death: Breaking the first rule created by "The Man Comes Around" will create a sign with the second rule written on it. This repeats for the 2nd and 3rd rule. If you break the 4th and final rule, it will use an Always Accurate Attack against you.
  • Laser Blade: Yasuke's "Shimmer" ability allows him to turn his katana into one of these.
  • Logical Weakness: Since Ride The Blue Limbo is activated by drawing a specific sword, absorbing said sword using KING & COUNTRY makes it almost completely useless.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: The Holy Spirit "Perfect Day" can make you fall asleep, and dream a "perfect" version of your life. If you fall for it, eventually the user will Brain Wash you, turning your body into a slave.
  • Magic by Any Other Name: Stands are called "Holy Spirits" in this Part.
  • Mech vs. Beast: "ERA", Duran Duran's Holy Spirit, becomes gigantic after feeding on the corpses of an entire graveyard. To fight against it, Youta absorbes five tons of iron from a nearby mine using "KING & COUNTRY", forming a Humongous Mecha.
  • Metal Muncher: Youta's Holy Spirit, "King And Country", is a variation of this trope. Youta can absorb metal by inserting it into his own navel; he can then use it to sprout metal blades from his own bones.
  • No Fair Cheating: Trying to break one the rules created by "The Man Comes Around"? If it's one of the first three, it will rewrite reality so that you'll fail; and if it was the last rule on the list, another rule will be created. Break the fourth rule, and the Spirit will cause damage proportional to the amount of rules that you previously tried to break.
  • Painting the Medium: "Ride the Blue Limbo" is displayed as blue electricity in an otherwise black-and-white comic.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: During the battle with Rum Tum Tugger, his Holy Spirit, "The Man Comes Around", forces everyone involved to do this.
  • Samus Is a Girl: There's a reason Tiger Eyes is never referred to using gendered pronouns
  • Story-Breaker Power: The Holy Spirit of the killer, Ride The Blue Limbo. Its main ability is to move objects or areas backwards or forward in time. This allows the user to do stuff like summoning inanimate objects from the past or the future; sending inanimate objects into another time, effectively making them disappear; putting their own body parts back together after being dismembered; and finally allowing them to reset the universe back to an earlier point, although events will always play differently.
  • Too Awesome to Use: Smash Mouth's Holy Spirit, "Fall Asleep In the Mirror", is essentially this. It takes the form of incense sticks that, when burned, put everyone who sees them to sleep and instantly heals all their wounds. The catch? Dekki only has three sticks left, they don't come back after use, and she believes something bad will happen if she uses all of them.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Yasuke, during the "Western Union" chapter, manages to unlock "Walking In Glory", which allows him to use the Shimmer on anything in range, including non-metallic objects.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Dekki eats almost exclusively honey. This foreshadows that she's actually a Rock Human.
  • Wham Line: When Dekki recounts her life in a flashback, she drops this line:
I wasn't really like other girls or boys... For starters, I never grew up. Or rather, when I did get older, it was only after unwittingly turning into a rock and sleeping for a few days.
  • Wham Shot: The "Mother" arc ends with a shot of where Youta, Dekki, Yasuke, "Tiger Eyes" and Yama ended up: atop a mountain overlooking modern Tokyo.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Kid Charlemange's Holy Spirit, "Long. Live. A$AP", has the incredible power of... binding itself to a bridge. Which they have minimal control over. And will hurt them if it is damaged. However, according to Word of God, since KC is but a child, its full capabilities have not awakened yet, so it may be an example of this.
