Patient J is a Batman short Fan Film made by Bat in the Sun.

The video is about Arkham psychologist Henry Youngman interviewing The Joker about his past and his beliefs.

It's a Prequel to Batman: City of Scars

Patient J Provides Examples of:

  • Attention Whore: The Joker killed several Robins and wanted to kill the others because they took Batman's attention from him.
  • Call-Back: When Henry ask The Joker if the death is the punchline, Joker answers that not always, near to the end he reveals that the punchline for Henry is stay maimed but alive.
  • Evil Counterpart: The Joker sees himself as this to Batman, thinking that they are like brothers just that he is evil and Batman is good.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Henry dedicates his life to understanding the Joker in order to get justice for his parents, but only ends up falling victim to his madness.
  • Homage: The video is a homage to The Joker's career in different media, using elements or making shout outs to many of the comics and other works where he appeared.
  • Mad Artist: The Joker sees himself and Batman as performers and says that he sees Gotham's population as puppets who he gives live in a comedy act.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: The imaginary final fight between Batman and The Joker ends with Batman giving one that ends with him strangling Joker to death.
  • Psycho Psychologist: Harley helps Henry 'understand' the Joker, brainwashing him into becoming one of his victims (and providing the means of his escape).
  • Retraux: Joker's flashbacks are shown in the style of a 1940's film serial or the 1960's tv show.
  • Villain Protagonist: Most of the video consist of The Joker's memories, many of which are of previous crimes, his imaginary sequences or of him talking with the Henry.
  • You Killed My Father: The Joker killed Henry's parents when he was thirteen.
