Knappnytt was a Swedish parody news program, producing 56 episodes between 2005 and 2011.

The show starred the potty-mouthed, angry cat Knatten, who commented on/ranted about a selected subject in each episode. The series started out as a flash animation on a website that allowed people to design custom pins. In the first episode, Knatten ranted about the then-popular idol Darin, and after that episode was an unexpected success, the show continued on. Between 2005 and 2008, a handful of flash-animated episodes were produced, commenting on subject such as Dreamhack, the swedish 2006 election, MSN and the olympics. In 2009, the series switched to live-action with Knatten being played by a plushie. This cut down the production time and made it easier to comment on current events. At this point, the series also introduced CP-Knatten, working as a comedic foil to Knatten. The series was produced biweekly from this point until fall of 2010, when it went into hiatus for a while until returning with a few more episode in the spring of 2011.

The series provide examples of:

  • Ambiguous Gender: Knatten's gender were never specified.
  • Cynic–Idealist Duo: Knatten is the cynic, CP-Knatten is the idealist.
  • Death Is a Slap on the Wrist: CP-Knatten has died several times (Been blown up, died of swine flu, etc.) only to return as if nothing happened in the next episode or even later in the same episode.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Discussed in the episode about the trial and sentence towards the founders of Pirate bay, pointing out the absurdity of them receiving sentences on the same level as rapists for uploading some torrents.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The first 8 episodes of the show was animated in flash, the following were live-action.
    • In episode 5, Knatten sang a tribute song to the Swedish monarchy. In later episodes, they were a fierce anti-royalist instead, ranting about how monarchy has no place in a secular democracy and joking about doing a French revolution on them. The dissonance between their past and current opinion om monarchy was Lampshaded when a human actor was strangled by Knatten for reminding them of the pro-monarchy song.
  • Grammar Nazi: Episode 4 had a segment were Knatten were reacting to the bad grammar in the mails sent to them in response to their first episode.
  • Take That, Audience!: Episode 30 was dedicated to reading and commenting on comments left on the series.
