''The FogMan Backstory'' is a fan webcomic of
SMG4 made by
Makerboy 10. It follows a creation of the God Box named Zola Mexis, aka the
FogMan, who ended up on Earth in a human form around the time humanity was created. He fell in love with a woman named Marsha and even married her, but a combination of her tragic death and a shady deal with a certain TV man may make things harder for him.
The FogMan Backstory contains examples of:
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Once again, Makerboy10 makes One-Shot Wren (or rather, him during his time in the afterlife) a nicer character than he was in Western Spaghetti.
- Big Bad: Mr. Puzzles, then simply known as the TV Adware, is the one causing problems in this story.
- Bittersweet Ending: The FogMan loses both his wife and his chance of becoming human, but assembles a group of people that he calls The Brotherhood to help him fight Mr. Puzzles.
- Came Back Wrong: Marsha coming back from the dead only made her a zombie who eats people.
- Death Glare: Makerboy10 manages to give Mr. Puzzles an angry face that he wouldn't show in SMG4 until "Mario's Mysteries". Keep in mind that the model used was a fan model that only had two faces and a screen that's off to work with at the time.
- Disproportionate Retribution: For not appreciating his "gift" (a gift that, bear in mind, involved turning his wife into a zombie that ate people, and even got her killed once again), Mr. Puzzles punishes the FogMan by setting him on fire. Since he's a creation of the God Box, this doesn't kill him, but it does permanently disfigure his face.
- Establishing Character Moment: Our first clue of the FogMan's heroic and noble intentions is his first action upon seeing two poor souls being to guide them to the afterlife in Page 2.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: Despite the FogMan's incredible powers and immortality, his main motivation is to become human.
- Leave No Witnesses: Marsha eats people who figure out she's a zombie.
- My God, What Have I Done?: One-Shot Wren is shown to deeply regret his actions in Western Spaghetti while he's in the afterlife.
- Mythology Gag: Where does the FogMan meet and fall in love with Marsha? None other than Port Aurora.
- Nice Guy: The FogMan was shown from start to finish to be a very kind man who wants nothing more than to help others. Even after Mr. Puzzles scars his face, he still does so.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Given the FogMan's kindness, it's not hard to understand what Marsha sees in him.
