Can't Buy Happiness
is an ongoing, up-and-coming webcomic written and produced by ChikoCheez and illustrated by DiegoAndMtz. It tells the Slice of Life story of Hazel MacGee, a rich girl who is a subversion of the Token Rich Student; She goes to a public school who tries her best to make it through life, and is overall nicer than Sophie Rottle, who is the main antagonist and Big Jerk on Campus. The webcomic also features Andromeda "Annie" Anderson, Hazel's best friend.
Tropes that money can't buy:
- Alliterative Name: Andromeda "Annie" Anderson.
- Deathbringer the Adorable: During an argument with Hazel, Sophie can be seen holding a small dog she calls Cleetus. During the verbal jabs Sophie gives Hazel, Cleetus has a facial expression that makes them at least seem like they're aware of their owner's meanness.
- Fluffy the Terrible: During an argument with Sophie, Hazel namedrops the name of her pets: Cupcake, Sunshine, and Peaches. As Sophie raises her voice, Hazel warns her not to do that before three vicious-looking guard dogs come from off-screen to defend Hazel.
- Meaningful Name:
- Hazel's middle name, "Tiffany," is supposed to be a stereotypical "mean girl's" middle name, which is meant to contrast with her kind personality.
- Sophie's last name, "Rottle," is obviously a play on the word "rotten."
- Shrinking Violet: Annie is the near definition of the trope. She's shy, implied to be a nerd as during her first appearance, she and Hazel are supposedly heading to Gamer's Club, wears glasses, usually has hunched shoulders, the works. The only thing she's missing is long, dark hair.
- Spoiled Sweet: Hazel is the daughter of Rory MacGee, Crystal City's mayor, and has an extremely pampered life. However, she's very outgoing, considerate, and comically generous.
- Thinking Out Loud: Sometimes, in stereotypical comic fashion, a character will be left alone in the last panel to deliver the punchline to nobody in-universe.
