Godzilla's pesky enemy, Gigan, gets the ultimate upgrade!
“Gigan’s Big Score” is the third entry of the “Tales from Monster Island!” Web Animation series made by YouTube animator Quazies and based on the Godzilla franchise. It mainly focuses around Gigan and Megalon as the former tries to prove he is among the “Big Bads” of the Kaiju bar. He seems to reach that by earning a new form, but soon Gigan would learn to be careful what he wished for.

Much like their previous work in the series, including Godzilla Jr Makes A Burger and Anguirus' Vacation, this short features no spoken dialogue, instead telling the story largely through narration in the captions to correspond with the characters' actions.

This video was released on April 22nd, 2023 and can be seen here.

Gigan's Big Score contains examples of:

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Upon changing from his Showa to his taller and leaner Final Wars design, Gigan begins to behave more vain and prideful. Going as far as to carving a building into his image. This also causes him to ditch Megalon in favor of the other villainous kaiju.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Spacegodzilla's stated goal is to "find a sweetheart with whom he'll take over the world with". He initially buys Titanosaurus a drink thinking he's female, but discovering his actual gender does not discourage him in the slightest, only piquing his interest even more.

  • Bad Guy Bar: The plot revolves over Gigan trying to access a Big Bad-only section of King Caesar's bar. However, once he does get inside, he quickly realizes that the villains inside are either a lot lamer than he imagined or really, really scary.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Gigan’s goal in the video was to prove he’s among “Big Bad” kaiju in the bar and achieves this after the Xiliens give him his Milennium form. Once he joins them though, he learns they’re not as cool as he initially thought and goes back to make amends with Megalon after pushing him away.

  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Implied to be the case with Titanosaurus, who has a softer design with vaguely feminine eyelashes and, as shown in previous animated short Anguirus' Vacation, somewhat girly mannerisms. Spacegodzilla buys him a drink without knowing this, until another kaiju gives him a note explaining Titanosaurus is male (it doesn't discourage him from attempting to flirt with him, though, as seen in the trope below).

  • Even the Guys Want Him: Spacegodzilla ends up buying Titanosaurus a drink in an attempt to hit on him. Learning he was actually male just gets Spacegodzilla even more interested in him.

  • Filching Food for Fun: The first act of villainy Gigan does in his brand-new armor is to steal a lollipop from one of Mothra's larva.

  • Freeze-Frame Introduction: Gigan and Megalon get both of these along with their mottos, the former getting a second one after getting his Milennium suit.

  • High-Pressure Emotion: After hours of stunned silence from being told he’s not among the Big Bads, Gigan boils red and flies into a rage.

  • Jerkass: The kaiju in the Big Bads section of the bar, most notably Spacegodzilla and Mechagodzilla, display this type of behavior. It’s what also makes Gigan begin reconsidering his position.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite Gigan’s jerkish traits and even pushing him aside in Milennium form, Gigan does ultimately care for Megalon and writes an apology letter to him in the climax.

  • Mean Boss: Upon learning of Gigan’s failure of killing Godzilla, the Xilien Commander curses him out and screams profanities at him. He does calm down when Gigan demands him a new set of upgrades the second time they meet.

  • Powered Armor: Gigan’s Milennium form is revealed to be this when he sheds it before apologizing to Megalon.

  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: If the behavior of the other Big Bad Kaiju wasn’t enough to sway Gigan away from them, Destoroyah threatening him was definitely what made the cyborg alien flee in fear and make amends with Megalon.

  • True Art Is Incomprehensible: Hedorah is a firm believer of this for their movies. Other kaijus... not so much.

  • Villainous Friendship: Despite their faults, Gigan and Megalon have this to a T. It does get tested after Megalon gets shoved aside by Gigan in his Milennium form though.

  • Would Hurt a Child: After getting his new Milennium armor, one of the first things Gigan did was steal a lollipop from one of Mothra’s larvae and kick her away.
