WMG / The Christmas Toy

Go To

In The Secret Life of Toys, Rugby, Balthazar, Mew and Ditz are living in their second home.
  • This explains why the Spin-Off series has a different playroom, different kids, and an otherwise different cast of toys. It takes place (as it was filmed) about eight years after The Christmas Toy. When Jamie and Jesse became teenagers, they gave their old toys to younger kids: Rugby, Balthazar, et al, went to Penny and Simon, the kids in the series, while Apple, Meteora, Belmont and the others went to other homes. Essentially, Penny and Simon are "Bonnie" to Rugby and friends, while Jamie and Jesse were their "Andy."

Penny and Simon are younger cousins to Jamie and Jesse.
  • Continuing on the above theme. This would explain why The Secret Life of Toys has a flashback in one episode showing Balthazar and series-only character Hortense together as young toys. When Balthazar was new, the child he belonged to was Jamie and Jesse's future mom or dad, while Hortense belonged to their sibling, Penny and Simon's future mom or dad. Each sibling kept their old toys for their own children when they grew up, but when Jamie and Jesse outgrew their toys and gave them to their cousins Penny and Simon, Balthazar and Hortense were reunited. The two pairs of kids being related also explains why they both name their dolls after fruit (Apple and Raisin): it's a family tradition.
