This series is actually set in the same reality as Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.
- However, rather than there just being a purgatory for cops, there's a purgatory for everyone. Frank is actually an avenging angel whose purpose is to punish the people he comes into contact with, and get them to realise the consequences of their having been (in life) a bad driving instructor, bad hotel owner, bad vicar, etc, etc.
- Betty has clearly been a very, very naughty girl...
Frank's mother was a Murphy
- That would explain why everything Frank seems to try ends up failing, and as the show has stated, his mother used to be exactly the same.
