Per wiki policy, Spoilers Off applies here and all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

Cole Young; Kuai Liang. Say those two quickly back to back.

  • The trailer certainly seems to be pushing it in that direction, I agree.
    • With some of the gold costuming, what about either a reincarnation or channel of Hanzo?
      • Or he's actually Satoshi who, instead of dying, somehow escaped the Shirai Ryu genocide but doesn't remember it.

  • That or Shujinko.
  • Or a Race lifted Johnny Cage with a different name
    • Or the same thing, but Johnny Cage was a stage name.
      • Wouldn't that qualify as a Mythology Gag since Johnny Cage was a stage name to begin with?
  • He is Mokap
  • Cole could be Taven.
  • Maybe he's a reincarnated Great Kung Lao?
  • The Johnny Cage theory seems to be jossed, the producers said that they plan to add Cage in the sequel.
    • The Shirai-Ryu connection is confirmed, as it turns out Cole is a descendant of Scorpion. Because of this, it's possible that he might turn out to be Takeda.

Shao Kahn will be the Greater-Scope Villain.

  • Shang Tsung, Shinnok or Mileena will be The Heavy.
    • Mileena is confirmed to be in the movie, so it may most likely be her.
  • Shao Kahn does appear by way of statues and artwork, but isn't explicitly named in-film. Shang Tsung is the Big Bad, and Sub-Zero is The Heavy.

Kano will make a Face–Heel Turn

I mean come on, it's Kano! What are the odds he's staying good, if he's not just Evil All Along.

  • He does, after being bribed by Kabal.

Cole will be added as DLC to Mortal Kombat 11.

Additionally, the movie costumes will be added to MK11.

Johnny Cage is Cole Young's father

It would be possible for Johnny to be Cole's father given how he has a hidden lineage.

  • Jossed, Cole is an orphan, and the Sequel Hook confirms that Johnny is alive and active in Hollywood.

If this movie gets any sequels, the Greater-Scope Villain will be Kronika, played by Tilda Swinton.

Sub Zero/Bi-Han will be killed by Scorpion.
Scorpion will kill Sub Zero for killing his clan and family. In the sequel Sub Zero will seemingly return from the dead only for it to be revealed to be Bi-Han's brother Kuai Liang who will be mentioned in the first film. Bi-Han will come back after as the wraith Noob Sabiot.
  • Confirmed. Scorpion is the one to kill Bi-Han, and Shang Tsung whisks away his body with the vague implication that he will be resurrected as Noob Saibot.

Kano betrays the heroes...
and lets someone in the group die, which will lead to Sonya having a grudge against him.
  • Adding to this theory, the person who will die because of Kano will be Cole Young.
  • Betrayal confirmed. Though Kano was never really on their side to begin with.

Cole Young is a Decoy Protagonist
There's no way the filmmakers would think fans would want the main character of a Truer to the Text Mortal Kombat movie to be some rando O.C., right? Well, what if the first, say, 20 minutes of the movie build him up as this great chosen warrior... and then he gets Fatalitied right off the bat, and the rest of the movie is about Liu Kang. In fact, when you watch the trailer again, you realize that Liu Kang seems to have more focus than him...
  • Sadly, jossed.
  • Maybe he'll be the new Art Lean in the sequel, if it ever gets made.

Scorpion's "Get over here!" will be redubbed by Ed Boon in the final movie.
The line's delivery in the trailer has been met with a bit of criticism, and it's honestly unthinkable for anyone but Ed to provide it, so there's still time to dub him over the actor before release, similar to Jim Cummings replacing Chris O'Dowd as Tigger in Christopher Robin.
  • Even if they don't get Ed Boon to do it, I believe the line will be altered. The fact that the actor's lips aren't visible at all means you can do whatever you want with the sound.
    • The line's delivery was altered in the final movie, but not by Ed.

Sub-Zero's ice blood dagger move will be incorporated into the main game series.
It's just too cool (pun not intended) not to.
  • But Sub-Zero already has a variation of this move in his x-ray move from MKX.

Kuai Liang has the Dragon Medallion and is discreetly running the Lin Kuei clan.
Bi-Han was born in the 15th century but I doubt they'll make Kuai Liang Bi-Han's descendant instead of his younger brother, so they can use the Dragon Medallion as an explanation for him not aging in six hundred years.

Kabal is actually the wanted fugitive Sonya is talking about in the trailer.
"When we got there, they tore through our unit in seconds. The target had superhuman abilities"? Definitely sounds like it could be referring to Kabal's superspeed. Plus, his design seems to feature a police vest; it could either be from when he previously served on the police force but then joined the Black Dragon, or it's from that very rampage on the unit to taunt Sonya.
  • Jossed. The fugitive is never identified in the film, but it's stated that he was killed.

All the characters who were shown being Fatalied in the trailer is actually Foreshadowing for a future installment.
Reiko, Reptile, and Mileena; all characters who were reborn in the Netherrealm and served Shinnok's army in Mortal Kombat 4. Additionally, Reiko will get a video game accurate outfit once he does.

There will be Shout-Outs/Mythology Gags to the franchise's various Guest Fighters.
Nothing major, but just like Jason's mask or a Terminator skull in the background somewhere would be cool.
  • Since Johnny Cage will appear in a sequel, we could have him be introduced filming a movie featuring all these guest characters.

Noob Saibot will appear in the sequel, provided there is one.
Bi-Han's actor confirmed he was signed on to appear in 4 more movies if they make any more. Given it was pretty much a Foregone Conclusion he would die at Scorpion's hands here, if they do make any more and he appears, it will most likely be as the wraith Noob Saibot while his younger brother takes the mantle of Sub Zero.

Kano will be resurrected in the sequel with his faceplate where Sonya stabbed him.

Possible Earthrealm Champions for MK2
  • Kuai Liang (either as Bi Han's brother or descendant)
  • Kurtis Stryker
  • Nightwolf
  • Kenshi
  • Kai
  • Smoke
  • Cyrax
  • Shujinko
  • Tremor
  • Mavado
  • Frost: Before her Face–Heel Turn
  • Sareena

Possible Outworld Champions for MK2
  • Kitana
  • Jade
  • Baraka
  • Kintaro
  • Ermac
  • Rain
  • Skarlet
  • Kotal
  • Erron Black
  • Sektor
  • Kollector
  • D'Vorah
  • Ferra/Torr
  • Frost
  • Noob Saibot
  • Sheeva
  • Quan Chi
  • Sindel
  • Tanya
  • Jarek
  • Hsu Hao: He will show up only to get killed.
  • Kuai Liang: Shang Tsung could manipulate him by stating that Bi-Han's killer is among the Earthrealm Champions.

Bi-Han, Mileena, Kano, and Kung Lao won't stay dead
  • Mileena will be recreated by the cloning process.

Shang Tsung will resurrect Goro in the Flesh Pits, but either on accident or purposefully he ends up becoming feline like Kintaro

The fugitive that Kano killed for their dragon mark was Hsu Hao.
I mean, he is the one Earthrealm criminal character in the franchise that no one would actually miss. And it's kind of a Running Gag at this point to kill him in an undignified manner every time he shows up.
  • Alternatively, it was Mokap.
  • Or it was Kabal. Kabal died "enough" when Kano "slit his throat" (note Sonya's wording) to transfer the dragon mark, but was able to be resucitated and placed in his life support gear. He's got Super-Speed that's pretty clearly an Arcana, so at least was at one point a Champion.

The reason for Bi-Han's Adaptational Villainy is because, in an ironic twist, Scorpion killed his family
No, Bi-Han wasn't exactly the NICEST person to begin with in the games. But in every previous incarnation of the character, he was innocent of the crime he was killed by Scorpion for. With Quan Chi Adapted Out (at least for now), the reason for Bi-Han doing the deed himself here is that Scorpion killed his family and, presumably, most of his clan given how few Lin Kuei we see in the movie. If Kuai Liang shows up in the sequel, he will learn of Bi-Han's massacre and, provided he isn't a bad guy too, will be disgusted by his brother's actions. Leading to his crusade to reform the Lin Kuei from the games. Starting with the new Grandmaster: Sektor.

If Kronika or the plot of Mortal Kombat 11 ever factor into the films, it will be revealed that past adaptations are previous timelines
Clips from the original film and sequel, Conquest, and Legacy will be shown in a montage of past timelines that were reset and remade to create the current film continuity.

Cole and Kuai Liang will team up
When Kuai Liang appears he will most likely be an Evil Counterpart of Cole in a way—a descendant of Bi-Han who inherits a portion of his powers and fights for Outworld rather than Earthrealm. However as he and Cole clash, Cole will meet with Hanzo again and learn the full story of the Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei, which could involve a series of strikes against each other and, like an above WMG suggests, lead to Hanzo killing Bi-Han's family before he did the same to Hanzo. The film's climax will have Cole and Kuai both understand that though their legacies both have blood on their hands, they have more important things to protect: their own families and Earth itself. The two will then team up and take on Shang Tsung (or Shao Khan) together.

Cole will inherit more elements of Scorpion in future films
Including the outfit, and a chance to say "Get over here!"

Cole Young is to Scorpion, what Kuai Liang is to Bi-Han
Cole Young will be the second Scorpion after the first passes the mantle on, or actually passes on.

In the sequel, Johnny Cage will be played by The Miz
There's already a rumor going around that it will happen and in this troper's honest opinion it's the PERFECT casting choice. Miz's egotistical wrestling character who fans love to hate has drawn comparisons to Cage in the past. It would be a match made in heaven. Like Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool.
  • Ed Boon himself has apparently shown his support for this casting, so we'll just have to wait and see...
  • Ultimately jossed. Johnny will be played in the sequel by Karl Urban.

Kano will return in a sequel
With his signature cyborg eye.
