Suzette and Vertignasse will betray Spirou, explaining they're estranged as adults.
- It's a Foregone Conclusion that Spirou will have a different Best Friend as an adult, and no girlfriend, while never talking about people he used to know as a child. How it could have happen is in fact stated into Vertignasse's exposition text by Spirou, present in every album, which states: "We are friends for life, except if he'd steal my bride". It seemed unlikely for years, as Vertignasse have himself a girlfriend (Raoulette), and he barely interact with Suzette. However, volume 19 started with a Darker and Edgier story, revealing that Spirou's father and his best friend had a terrible argument that ended their friendship. Hearing that, Spirou swears he will never do the same... while Suzette gives a Meaningful Look in Vertignasse's direction. An official artwork support the theory, showing slightly older Suzette and Spirou. The latter do not look like his adult self yet, so they must be teenagers in middle or high school. And still look like a happy couple. However, a lonely, apparently separated from his girlfriend for some reason Vertignasse watch them from behind. And with an envious look. Suzette will likely cheat on Spirou with him at some point between this and adulthood, leading Spirou to never see them again...And it may explain, given that The First Cut Is the Deepest, why Spirou went from being a Dirty Kid to a Celibate Hero, having lost all trust in love stories.
Still because of the story at the beginning of volume 19, Spirou will end up estranged from his family as well.
- It's safe to assume that Grand-Papy will die of old age when Spirou is an adult, but why does he never mention or visit his parents then? The argument between Spirou's father and his former friend lies in the fact that the latter realized that his wife cheated on him with Spirou's dad. The proof is, their red haired daughter Ludivine, while her two assumed parents are both brown-haired. Nobody noticed for years though, and Ludivine used to be Spirou's first best friend, and first love. When the ex best friend discovered the story, Ludivine refused to talk to Spirou again, and the family quickly moved away. The next year, Grand-Papy revealed that that two fathers argued, but he doesn't know why, and neither does Spirou. What if he learned the truth about it later in life? If he was deceived by his girlfriend already, he would have ended up with serious trust issues. Discovering that his parents lied to him about this story, would probably bring Spirou to break off all ties with his family. And realizing that the first person he kissed was his half-sister could be another good reason for him to be disgusted by interactions with women.
Spirou's first name is Jean-Baptiste.
- It's the case, at least, in the WWII miniserie ''L'espoir malgré tout'' (Hope against all odds). In Le petit Spirou movie that came 10 years after, there is once a close up to the Spirou family's tree, where Spirou's father first name is Jean-Baptiste. Maybe the father and the son share it, and in order to be distinguished from his dad, the son is usually referred to on a Last-Name Basis. And if the above WMG is true, it can be assumed that Spirou, as an adult, will prefer to be speaking of by a different name than his father's,that he's not proud of.
