The anime is Sanrio's answer to The Office (US)

Characters from the shorts who were only in the background or absent in the Netflix series will have bigger roles in season 2
There were several funny and cute characters from the shorts who did not appear or only were extras in the Netflix series. Some of them will come back in season two because it would be a waste of good characters if they didn’t show up.

Puko will return.
Many fans think Puko was just a plot device to demonstrate the difficulties of one quitting a job and then starting their own small business right away. A future arc will take Puko out of her scrappy status and have her do everything she can to truly help Retsuko in her time of need.
  • Puko is at least partly Rescued from the Scrappy Heap during the "Metal Christmas" special, as she's shown working her butt off to keep the business running and being unable to hang out with Retsuko over Christmas as a result.

Ton is trying to groom Retsuko
It's mentioned over in the Heartwarming section that Ton more or less admitted he knows Retsuko has what it takes to replace him some day. In that same episode, he also mentioned that his own bosses treated him mercilessly. Ton may be trying to mentor Retsuko to be a stronger, more self confident person, in his own horribly misguided way.

To note some of the alternate character interpretations supporting this theory:

  • More specifically, Ton mentioned that his only solace was to work to be twice as good as the bosses who mistreated him. He knows that Retsuko was considering trying to marry rich to escape her job, since he uses it to burn her in his rap, but before mentioning this he asked if she'd decided if she was going to quit, or tough it out, and seemed pleased when Retsuko told him she was going to tough it out.
  • When he snapped at Retsuko when she tried to use Tsunoda's flirting tricks on him, it may not have been that he thought she was insulting him, but that he realised that she was trying to manipulate him to be kinder to her. If he views Retsuko as an employee with potential, as opposed to viewing Tsunoda as a bad employee (what with her constant flirting and dumping her work on her coworkers), he might have been trying to nip that sort of behavior in the bud.
  • While he did it in the most intimidating way possible, he did trust Retsuko to train a new employee, which isn't something you'd delegate to someone you didn't think was competent enough to train them well. And when she began having trouble with Anai, he had no problems leaping in to put an insubordinate employee in his place for disrespecting his trainer, even if it didn't work.
  • Even though Ton has said some messed up and sexist things, Ton admitted to his own bosses treating HIM mercilessly. But wait a minute, if he thinks women are incompetent, why does he care about training Retsuko so much? Because it's not that he actually thinks lowly of women, he's trying to get on Retsuko's nerves so she'll get used to shitty employees in the future; just like his bosses tried doing with him in a way.
  • By Season 4 this is ultimately Jossed. It's abundantly clear that despite his gripes with individual employees in the company, he still values and cherishes everyone who works under him, cemented in the scene where he says to Himuro that no one is getting canned.
    • Maybe this only reinforces the theory..

Fenneko is in love with Haida
Unfortunately she has a serious case of I Want My Beloved to Be Happy, which is why she's always trying to help set him up with Retsuko.

Eventually Haida will get totally rejected by Retsuko, forcing him to realize that Fenneko cares for him more than Retsuko ever did.

Fenneko loves her friends and wants them to be happy
The above but both Fenneko/Retsuko and Fenneko/Haida

Fenneko started the rumor that Retsuko had a baby.
First, she gets to see Haida go overboard for a rumor, which is funny. Then Haida asks what the 'truth' is, meaning Retsuko gets embarrassed when having to explain. Two-for-one special!

ENI-O will become an antagonist in Season 3.
Tadano's remark that Retsuko's job will be rationalized away will come true. After ENI-O leaves beta, the company will buy one of it to support then eventually replace the entire Accounting Department. Its employees and Ton will have to work together to sabotage the AI. Might involve A.I. Is a Crapshoot.
  • Jossed. It's actually kind of the opposite. It's Gori's ENI-O-based dating app that gives Retsuko and Haid a 100% compatibility rating and gives Haida the confidence to confront Retsuko and get her past her trauma.

There will be a Distant Finale and it will be bittersweet
On the one hand, Retsuko has her life together and is happy. On the other hand, she has taken over Ton's job as director of the accounting department and treats her underlings similarly to how he treated her. Except she does it all with death metal.

The Yoga Instructor traded his capacity for speech in return for wisdom
He essentially took a lighter form of vow of silence. In return, he gained the ability to become one with the universe, divine certain things, and even transmitting such knowledge telepathically.

There will never be a conclusive ending to the series
Because Status Quo Is God, and judging by what Rarecho said, 'everything that needs to be said has been said in the first two seasons'. They might have character developments here and there, but only non-visible ones as they can't afford to put a conclusive end or permanent change to the series. That would be akin to having Mickey Mouse actually marrying Minnie Mouse, changing the status quo and putting an end to a lot of potential with the characters.

Washimi is Asexual or Aromantic
She shows little interest in romance and divorced 4 months after getting married. Her actions speak to her having very little if any, interest in such things.

Retsuko will ultimately get with Fenneko at the end of the series.
The Creators will decide to pull a Korra on us, where they spend most of the series teasing that the heroine will have a traditional hetero relationship, only for her to come out as bisexual and get with another girl.

The final season will have Haida accidentally impregnating Retsuko while both are drunk.
After discovering she's pregnant with Haida's child, Retsuko and Haida will spend the season undergoing angst over being parents despite not being married yet.

Tsunoda and Komiya will get married before Retsuko finds her special someone.
It'd be a good way to rub salt into Retsuko's wounds that her annoying ass-kissing co-workers are able to find love before she does.

Tsunoda has dwarfism or a different growth disorder of some kind.
The other gazelles we've seen as background characters in the series tend to have fairly normal proportions for their species, being tall and having long limbs, muzzles, and horns. Tsunoda, on the other hand, has more child-like proportions, with her horns, limbs, and muzzle being more stubby in comparison to the other gazelles.

Inui will form a relationship with Fenneko in Season 4.
After dealing with her breakup with Haida, she'll start hanging out with Fenneko and talking about her feelings with her. Bonus points if they end up being an Official Couple by the series finale.
  • Jossed.

OTM Girls is just as much Hyodo's dream as everyone else is.
Hyodo has absolutely no idea how to manage the girls despite his almost religious devotion to the band and some of the stagehands even comment that Hyodo was new to the whole Managing gig. And despite his demeanor, he is legitimately happy when Retsuko finally turns a profit for them, along with his sadness when she left. The band was just as much of a pipe dream for him as it was for Manaka. Given Manaka's comments, this might have been his dream originally, since she says he always drags them along for the ride.

Retsuko is jealous of HelloKitty and all the other Sanrio characters
Think about it: Kitty and her friends are little kids that never seem to age no matter how many birthdays they have. They get to go on plenty of fun adventures in many of Sanrio’s works, often without supervision. Retsuko doesn’t live in the sunshine-and-rainbows land that they do. She has to deal with the many challenges of adulthood. Kitty and co. are practically spoiled in comparison.

Haida will (perhaps temporarily) get Ton's job
In the season 4 trailer, Ton is mentioned to be transferring out of Accounting after a new CEO is brought in, who seems to take a liking to Haida. Given the guy mentions valuing personal loyalty over all else, it's possible he picks Haida to replace Ton... and nearly sinks Retsuko's relationship with him in the process, since underling-boss relationships are frowned upon at most companies.
  • Confirmed, but only for a short while.

The series will end with Retsuko and friends forming a band as their nightlife outside the office.
  • Retsuko would do vocals, Haida would play bass, Fenneko and Tsunoda would handle their social media, Anai might handle PR or something, and there'd probably be some help from the likes of Tadano or Hyodo, perhaps organizing tours.

What is Haida's full name, anyway?
  • As of Season 5 "Haida" is revealed to be his surname, not his given name, even though everyone just calls him by his last name. Since his father and brother both have a name scheme that begins with J and ends with either an "o" or "u" depending on how you Romanize it (Juzo(u), Jiro(u)), it could be a name like "Juno" or "Juto". On the other hand, "Jiro" means "Second Son", so if Haida's father is really traditionalist, his name would be "Ichiro", which means "Firstborn Son", and given the stress that probably comes with a name like that, it makes sense why Haida would never, ever use it...
