Sword of Asumi is a Visual Novel set in Alternate History Japan; in which Japan never opened its borders and has maintained its Shogunate system of government. It is a companion piece to Swords Of Edo, its manga counterpart.
The main storyline takes place in a Samurai in Ninja Town setting. This is the converse to what the trope name would suggest, given that Asumi, the main character, is an undercover assassin posing as a student at a Samurai Academy. The academy itself, Battle School, teeters on the line of Military Academy and Academy of Adventure.
This work contains examples of:
- Brainy Brunette: Utsuro is the male equivalent of this.
- Debate and Switch: In the"Edo Politics" class, the player engages in a debate over Unitary vs. Federal government, in the context of current events. The discussion of power does not re-appear later in the novel.
- Gay Option: The female protagonist has the option to romance at least two female characters.
- Multiple Endings: Self-titled after ending the game; i.e., "Ending #6".
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Raven, the Code Name of the work's major antagonist.
