Ys Strategy is Real-Time Strategy Spin-Off of the Ys franchise that was a self-proclaimed destined "benchmark" on the Nintendo DS where it aimed to have heroes and heroines be "charismatic and absorbing" in a world of beauty and fantasy. Developed by Future Creates, it was initially released in Japan on March 23, 2006, published by Marvelous Entertainment. On December 7, 2006, a European version was released and published by Rising Star Games.

Abel fights for supremacy by working out the resources, constructing his units, and strategizing wisely.

Ys Strategy contains examples of:

  • Canon Discontinuity: This game is not part of the official Ys canon.
  • Canon Foreigner: While Ys Strategy does include Abel, who fills in a similar role to Adol Christin, one of the new characters from the game is Reonea the Esterian Princess with Sirius as her father. Ys canon has no known individual who officially ruled Esteria as a king.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Reunea's hair is blue with matching eyes to boot.
  • The Exile: Catharis, lord of Garmain, was born in the Romun Empire, but was expelled from the country by the emperor.
  • Hero Unit: This game gives you two types of units, which are literally called the hero and heroine. The actual fighting methods differ depending on which country you're playing as, but the common trait is that they're stronger than everything else. Their power is cranked up further when the player chooses to directly control either- not only overcoming Artificial Stupidity, but boosting movement and offense power.
  • Missing Mom: Reonea lost her mother prior to the events of the game.
  • No Name Given: The Romun emperor was never given a name whatsoever.
  • Prequel: Ys Strategy is set hundreds of years prior to the first two games. However, it has been struck from Continuity.
  • Red Is Heroic: Abel has red hair and is one of the heroes.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Abel has red hair and a hero, similar to Adol Christin.
