A brand new virus, the Viriax, is starting to infect people. An infected person is implanted with the NAS (Nanobot Assembly System) chip, an experimental system producing artificial antibodies, to see if it can counter the virus. As the virus, infect all major organs, and destroy the NAS, to prove them wrong...
A minor project from Locomalito, made after he got extremely sick in 2010, and published in 2011, Viriax is an arcade Platform Game where you play as a strain of the virus. Each level is an organ where you must swim up the blood to reach the organ's core. But between your limited energy reserves and the nanobots, it'll be easier said than done...
Provides examples of:
- Cast from Lifespan: You lose energy with every Double Jump and when you're hit by enemies.
- Dash Attack: Your main way to attack the nanobots, but you can only do it downwards. The "Super Jump" powerup allows you to do it upwards as well.
- Double Jump: Rather, Infinite Jump. This is how you progress up towards the core. But each jump will cost you energy...
- Heal It with Blood: You regain energy by eating red blood cells.
- Nanomachines: The virus targets somebody that undergone treatment with the NAS.
- Poison Mushroom: Two "powerups" actually are this:
- "Low jump": Reduces your jump height.
- "Reverse control": Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
- Power-Up: Twenty of them! (Well, actually 18 plus two Poison Mushrooms).
- Randomly Generated Levels: Except for the bosses, everything is this.
- Rule of Three: You lose your current powerup after being hit three times.
- The Bad Guy Wins: The virus successfully infects the human host, resulting in their death, and the virus spreads to others.
- Villain Protagonist: You play as the virus, and the game makes it obvious what to do.
