TOMB RUSH is a Game Mod for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk by ProjectAlpha22 and Team SlopBrew, released on October 28th 2023 as a Halloween event for the BRC multiplayer mod SlopCrew.
Long ago, before the Code of the Street was established, a slasher-themed writer known as Syko was betrayed and killed by his closest friends, who had become jealous of his abilities. The writers of New Amsterdam mourned him greatly, with him being posthumously dubbed the "All Hallow's King" and a competition to honour his legacy being held every year around Halloween. However, around the time of the latest competition, a freak accident causes Syko and a horde of other deceased cyborgs to rise again and descend upon Versum Hill. Now it's up to six writers - mummy-styled rapper Rams II, possibly vampiric fashion designer Ivana, mischievous pumpkin cyberhead J.A.C.K, mellow werewolf Amadeus, sweet but cursed YO!Tuber Reiko and the enigmatic Grey Man - to stop the horde and lay Syko and his forces to rest for good, all while vying to become the next All Hallow's King.
The mod comes in 2 parts: A character pack
featuring playable versions of the mod's cast is available on Gamebanana, while the main mod is available on Thunderstore. Tomb Rush's gameplay is simple: defeat the swarm of Cyberhead Zombies and take out the transmitters scattered around the map that are bringing them to life.
- And Your Reward Is Clothes:
- Completing the event nets your character a crown to wear, which lasts until you quit the game or leave Versum Hill.
- On a larger scale, Syko's character file was released to the public after enough people completed the event, allowing anyone (even if they didn't beat or have the main mod) to play as him.
- Came Back Wrong: The mod's premise consists of this - a bunch of Cyberheads have mysteriously risen from the dead, and it's up to you to take them out before they can escape Versum Hill.
- Experienced Protagonist: J.A.C.K, Ivana and Rams II have all held the title of All Hallow's King in the past, and are thus the ones spearheading the fight against Syko.
- Joke Character: Joey Boo. He's a Bedsheet Ghost with sneakers and a dopey grin who's noticeably less polished than the other characters and is basically impossible to take seriously.
- Our Zombies Are Different: In this case they're Cyborg zombies, bought back to life after a mysterious incident (likely involving the transmitters). They're just as mindless and rabid as any regular zombie, though they don't seem to have a taste for human flesh as much as they do a single-minded desire to hurt things.
- Shout-Out: Being a mod made to celebrate Halloween, it's only natural that Tomb Rush would be steeped in references to classic horror tropes and archetypes, along with other, subtler references to various other media.
- The 7 characters are all themed after stock horror monsters/villains: J.A.C.K is a Headless Horseman, Amadeus is a werewolf, Rams II is a Mummy, Ivana is a vampire, Reiko is a Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl, Syko is a mix between a zombie and a Stock Slasher, and the Grey Man is based on the legend of the "Hat Man".
