The Good Grimace Shake Horror Game is a Mascot Survival Horror parody game developed by Gestmorph Games and released for free on Game Jolt
and Itch.io on 12th July 2023. It is based on the Grimace Shake trend.
You are trapped within a McDonald's play area, hunted by Grimace while suffering from dehydration. You have the eponymous Grimace Shake to quench your thirst, but every sip you take only makes Grimace's presence grow stronger. The other item you have on hand is a gamepad, containing a platformer minigame where you play as Grimace collecting his milkshakes in each level. Completing a level reveals the exit of each section of the play area. Standing still for too long will allow Grimace to catch you and you must look and listen carefully for signs of his presence to avoid running into him. Careful management of when and what to do at a given time will be necessary to escape the maze of the play house. Will you succeed, or will you become yet another victim of Grimace?
This game contains examples of:
- Abandoned Playground: You're in a McDonald's play area and there's no one else around. No one except Grimace, that is.
- Big Bad: Grimace.
- Diegetic Interface: The platformer minigame you need to play to find out which pipe to take exists on a handheld console you have in your possession.
- Difficulty by Acceleration: One of the effects of drinking the Grimace Shake is that the more you drink it, the less you time you have to move before Grimace catches you.
- Faux First Person 3D
- Game Within a Game: The platformer minigame you play on your gamepad to find out which pipe to take to move to the next section.
- Infinite Flashlight: It's your only way to see.
- Invincible Boogeyman: Grimace cannot be fought in any way. You can only avoid him and run.
- The Many Deaths of You: There are several ways to fail. The escapee goes too long without drinking the Shake, Grimace catches them, or they take the wrong pipe.
- Mascot Horror: With Grimace as the mascot, and horror, in question.
- The Maze: The play area seems like it would be an example of this, what with each segment having three hallways to choose from, but you'll always make it to the end of a section regardless of what path you take. At the end of each section, however, are three pipes where only one is the correct exit and you need to play the minigame to find out which one it is.
- No Such Thing as Dehydration: Averted. You dehydrate very quickly, necessitating the need to drink the Grimace Shake.
- One-Hit-Point Wonder: In the minigame, Grimace dies in one hit if he touches the spikes.
- Palette Swap: The last four levels of the minigame are the same as the first four but with a differently coloured background.
- Side View: The perspective of the platformer minigame.
- Spikes of Doom: In the minigame, these are an obstacle that move upwards from floor to floor.
- Tube Travel: Each section ends with three pipes to travel through. Only one leads to the next section. The others lead to death.
- Unlockable Difficulty Levels: Beating the game unlocks Extreme Mode, which starts the game as if you had already taken multiple sips of the Grimace Shake.
- Wizard Needs Food Badly: If you go too long without drinking the Grimace Shake, you'll dehydrate and die.
