Generated with seed 1592312895. First layer is points, lower ones use -ity noun names.

The Ascension Tree is an Idle Game co-developed by Semenar and The Paper Pilot for April Fools' Day 2021. It uses a seed from 1 to 4294967295 to generate layers and upgrades for a tree.

The NG- layers (on the left) are typically slower and use smaller numbers, while NG+ layers (on the right) have a tendency to progress faster and inflate.

Despite the game's appearance and structure, it does not run on The Modding Tree, though the concept does resemble The RNG Tree, which came out on the same day (the main differences are that this game can last far longer as it's solidly balanced but far more repetitive, while that game has a little more variety but runs into an insurmountable timewall by row 2).

The game is playable here.

This game provides examples of:

  • Deconstruction Game: The game was made to poke fun at Procedural Generation. As it turns out, making a balanced game with it results in being really repetitive and boring.
  • Endless Game: The game does not have a defined endgame, meaning it could go on potentially forever. That said, a layer could calculate its upgrade costs in a way that would require an exorbitant amount of time (while the ascensions would be practically worthless) to actually produce the necessary points, and if every single layer were like that, the game would reach a point where there's no way to progress. Still, it's unlikely that a player would ever reach that point, as NG- layers grow slower and more reliably.
  • Export Save: There's an export window where you can copy your 800+ byte save and an import window where you can paste it, with buttons meant to make the task easier. Since lower layers have more upgrades, the save file grows at an increasing pace as you go down.
  • Not Completely Useless: In many cases, the "Get 100% of gain on ascension per second" upgrade is useless since the upgrades that produce points per second end up working much better. Still, it does help start the layer after resetting if you don't have the "Upgrades on this layer are never reset" upgrade.
  • Notice This: A node grows green when resetting the layer would provide a boost to its point and red when an upgrade can be bought there.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Upgrade and layer names will eventually repeat due to the limited number of them.
  • Randomly Generated Levels: It's a randomly generated game. All layer names and upgrades in them are generated based on a seed which is given randomly at the start (though you can select one upon resetting).
  • Theme Naming: Every single layer name uses a noun with the suffix -ity, which is a common practice in other idle games.
