A lovely evening in the aquarium? What could go wrong?

Sea Mongrel is an indie horror game developed by Kulu, the creator of Hungry Lamu.

A young couple goes out to view a sea aquarium for their anniversary, even though it's close to closing time. So, they decide to make the most of it to see the fish. However, in the middle of it, the lights go out and they are attacked by creepy fish with human heads. They'll have to fight their way past the monsters if they want to escape with their lives.

Sea Mongrel contains these examples:

  • Animalistic Abomination: The sea animals that attack Theo and Kim have disturbing human-like faces with various expressions that don't help their case.
  • Character Level: After defeating a mutant sea animal, Theo and Kim gain experience points that give them new abilities.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: After having opened the way back to the entrance of the park, Theo and Kim were almost at the exit...until Kim suddenly gets a bad feeling they're being watched. Sure enough, a bottlenose dolphin attacks them as the last obstacle to freedom.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After having to survive a nightmarish ordeal escaping the sea aquarium and battling against mutated sea animals, they managed to escape just in time to catch the bus and are finally able to relax, happy to have pulled through together.
  • Easter Egg: A plush can be found in the park resembling Mochi as a banana, which originally made an appearance in Hungry Lamu.
  • Glove Slap: With the White Glove, Theo or Kate can use it to remove the Sleep status effect.
  • Healing Herb: Medicinal Herbs can be optionally found, which can used to cure the Poison status.
  • Improvised Weapon: Theo and Kate, due to being in a sea aquarium, have to scrounge around the building to find reliable weapons to fight back and escape.
  • Poison Is Evil: Averted for Theo, as he can optionally acquire an attack that deals Poison damage on the mutant sea creatures.
  • Shout-Out: When Theo and Kate look at a pair of fish, they bring up a movie called "Finding Memo", playing with the name of a Disney movie.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: If the note left behind by a former scientist is anything to go on, it's possible that the scientist, in anger at having to work a mundane job with people he hates - that, by all accounts, hadn't done him wrong - spiked their food or drinks with something that turned them into the sea animal hybrids.
  • Turn-Based Combat: Being a game with RPG mechanics, players determine what Theo and Kate do to fight the sea animal, and then the turn of attacks plays depending on whether the enemy or one of the protagonists gets to attack first.
