Legacy of the Pony is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Metroidvania fangame created by NoonAnna and DeftFunk.

Spike is walking through the woods with Rarity at his side only for her to be kidnapped by the Diamond Dogs. Chasing after them, Spike discovers his path is blocked by a gate that will only open up with the Elements of Harmony. Now Spike must travel through an underground labyrinth to find the elements and save his friend.

The trailer for the game with a download link in its description can be found here.

Legacy of the Pony includes examples of:

  • An Ice Person: The Frost powerup gives Spike ice breath which allows him to freeze his enemies.
  • Chest Monster: These monsters appear in the Laughter section.
  • The Cameo: The Cutie Mark Crusaders appear as cloaked shopkeepers.
    • Deku Scrubs can be found in certain areas and they offer to sell you an item or give you advice after you hit them.
    • Each of the Mane Six appears on the exit menu depending on which of the elements you have selected.
  • Darkness Equals Death: After collecting an Element of Harmony from their respective area, the area itself becomes dark and the enemies become more dangerous and aggressive.
  • Deflector Shields: The final boss, Nightmare Rarity uses one that protects her from being hurt. The shield doesn't drop until she charges up a magic blast.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The graphics are in black and white. The Elements of Harmony avert this as they appear in their respective colors.
  • Demonic Possession: After being defeated, the King of the Diamond Dogs is revealed to be possessed by an evil spirit. This being goes on to take control of Rarity's body which turns her into Nightmare Rarity.
  • Excuse Plot: Rarity has been kidnapped and you must save her.
  • Foreshadowing: In the Break Room, the Diamond Dogs all mention how their boss is acting strange and has become obsessed with capturing ponies. This suggests their leader wasn't always like that and something is wrong with him.
  • Invisible Block: These are seen in the Honesty area. Some serve as platforms while others are walls that block your path. Wearing the Element of Honesty allows you to turn them visible.
  • Jump Scare: Near the end of the Loyalty area, a quarray eel pops out of nowhere and swallows you whole! Thankfully it doesn't kill you and you need to hit it multiple times to break free.
  • Retraux: The game is designed to look like and play like a Game Boy game.
  • Shout-Out: Mainly to the The Legend of Zelda series but there are other examples as well.
