An Action game based on Beauty And The Beast, developed by Software Creations and Sunsoft for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Based on the 1991 Disney animated movie, it's one of the two Beauty And the Beast games released at the same time. As the subtitle indicates, this game stars the Beast in an Action platformer.

Unleash the Beast and take control of all his power and fury, because many fierce battles stand in his way, and protect the Rose in the castle, lest he remains a hideous beast forever. The Beast battles foes with his powerful strength. Protect the castle from vile beings, Leap on tree branches through the forest and fight savage wolves, then take on the villagers and the evil Gaston on the Castle's rooftop! Summon all of the brute strength you can to get through the battle ahead.

See also Belle's Quest, the Distaff Counterpart game, which is an action adventure game starring Belle.

Beauty And The Beast: Roar of the Beast contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: In order to justify the animal mooks inside the castle's west wing, Roar of the Beast explains in an introductory cutscene that, after a sudden storm, "enchanted animals" (which include bats, snakes, rats, a bear and a boar) have flocked to the castle.
  • Another Side, Another Story: Roar of the Beast is a loose retelling of the movie's story with the focus on the Beast, while Belle's Quest retells the story from Belle's POV.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The first mini-boss is a large brown bear.
  • Darker and Edgier: This game has none of the bright and colorful design of its counterpart game, taking place within the Beast's castle and involves some of the more tense settings of the movie.
  • Final Boss: Gaston awaits the player atop the rooftop of the Castle, and its up to you to take him out.
  • Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better: The Beast can walk on all fours, as well as assume a bipedal stance. This does not affect gameplay at all, but it is easy to hit the floor-level enemies like this.
  • Full-Boar Action: The boss of stage 1, whose battle occurs in the room with the enchanted rose, is a large red-furred boar.
  • It's All Upstairs From Here: In the last stage, the Beast has to climb up the rooftops of his castle to reach Gaston.
  • Life Meter: Measured by hand mirrors, which decreases by half each time you are hit.
  • The Lost Woods: Stage 3 takes place in the snow-covered woods, where the Beast must protect Belle from danger.
  • Mighty Roar: The Beast can use his roar as a special attack that paralyzes onscreen enemies. It is limited to three uses.
  • Mini-Game: After the second level, the game places the Beast in a mini-game where he has to collected falling rose petals.
  • Point of No Continues: The game provides unlimited continues... up until the Final Boss battle with Gaston, at which point the game kicks the player back to the title screen upon losing their last life. Not helping matters is that this battle is followed by a Brutal Bonus Level with little margin for error and No Ending outside of the credits sequence.
  • Rooftop Confrontation: The second-to-last stage is the battle with Gaston atop the castle.
  • Savage Wolves: The second boss is a large wolf with gray fur.
  • Storming the Castle: In stage 3, the Beast has to fend off the villagers that have invaded the castle.
