I am hailing from the luckless lands of the north, which like Hesiod's Askra, are freezing cold in Winter and boiling hot in Summer but miserable in both. Likewise, in December and January, the days are bad; those who are outside must dress warmly.

My favourite artistic things are Archilochus, Li Po, Jack Vance's Dying Earth, H. P. Lovecraft, A Song of Ice and Fire, Chung Kuo, Jade Empire, Harold Lamb, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Now and Then, Here and There, and Battle Royale (the novel).

Any recommendations based on these would be welcome.

• Surprisingly Good English - Compared to many Americans I have seen, anyway. Its become the norm for others to have failing English in my experiences, sadly. (And this is by westerners. Foreigners don't count if they really are just not very good at English with it not being their first languages or the language they are most familiar with.)
