- Author's Saving Throw: Acca and Ura-Acca's discussion about suicide in episode four was criticized by viewer as sexist and grossly generalized. The director later clarified on Twitter that their comments weren't meant to be taken as fact, a point that would have been further emphasized through a line of dialogue from Neiru explicitly disagreeing with them that was cut because the director thought it was clear enough as it was.
- Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Western sources such as Polygon and Crunchyroll have mislabeled Wonder Egg Priority as a Magical Girl Warrior series due to it having a Monster of the Week format, the girls fighting with magic, and it bears a resemblance to the tone of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. However, Magical Girl series are founded on having a Transformation Sequence, which the girls do not have. Shinji Nojima confirmed in an interview that while the series does use magical girl elements, he describes it as a fantasy series.
- Dueling Works: With Otherside Picnic, which also involves girls in an alternate dimension fighting otherworldly creatures and one of the characters trying to find a long-lost friend. Both series also feature a main character who has heterochromia.
- Playing Against Type: In the Japanese version, Frill is voiced by Megumi Yamaguchi, who usually voices Shrinking Violets, or, at a minimum, soft-spoken girls. Frill is the furthest away from these traits as it can be.

- Sleepless Domain: Ai Ohto's name can be seen written on one of the grave markers at the Magical Girl graveyard in Chapter 18.
- Troubled Production: While anime production crunch culture is nothing new, nor did it cause the series waver or decline too much in quality like other examples have, the series had a brutal production from what essentially was a huge amount of ambition without enough people to feasibly get it made on time. To get episodes done, the staff resorted to hiring freelance foreign animators online, with Episode 8 being replaced by a recap at the last minute to give the crew time to keep working on the rest of the series. It also ended up being a case of Schedule Slip — due to the recap taking up a timeslot, the final episode was pushed back until June 2021.
- Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: The head writer admitted that he had no overall plan for the series and pretty much just made things up every week. On top of that, he had basically no contact with the rest of the team aside from sending them scripts. He didn't talk over things with them beforehand.
