- During filming, the four actors playing the hijackers were kept separate from the rest of the actors to encourage animosity between the two groups.
- Khalid Abdalla, who plays lead hijacker Ziad Jarrah, was initially reluctant to play the role, fearing it was too stereotypical. Likewise, it was rumored that his character Jarrah actually was reluctant to follow through with the hijacking, with another hijacker expressing concern he might abandon them. Like the character he played, the actor Abdalla went through with his task.
