- Author's Saving Throw: The fact that the player character cannot remain loyal to Kyros in the ending was highly divisive. Eventually, Obsidian patched in dialogue options where your character expresses a wish to do so and an ending where you swear fealty to Kyros.
- What Could Have Been:
- The original idea for Tyranny came from a 2006 game pitch codenamed Fury, which involved a world suffering from a Magic Apocalypse. That initial pitch was refined into a new game called Defiance, which Obsidian started pitching in 2009. By 2012, the pitch evolved into a game called Stormlands, which was picked up by Microsoft as a launch title for the Xbox One. Unfortunately, it was cancelled by Microsoft during the final greenlight meeting. This was the catalyst that caused Obsidian Entertainment to fire 30 people and almost go out of business before Pillars of Eternity was successfully kickstarted.
- If the Art Book is any indication, the game originally had an Act IV and Act V, presumably resolving the cliffhanger.
