Trivia / Totally Not Mark

  • Creator Backlash:
    • Mark regrets creating the Dragon Ball Super 10 worst animated moments videos. Not only were they inaccurate in what animation and artwork was, but it was unfair to the animators working under terrible schedule and, in Mark words, "just pointing the finger and not doing anything about it." He is disappointed that they are still his most viewed videos.
    • Even more so regarding his video criticising the Galactic Patrol Arc in Moro: The Troubled Chapters, stating that a lot of his negativity was due to him jumping the gun on many issues before the arc was even completed, as well as a preconceived bias towards Toyotaro's recent works. Sure enough, as later chapters were released, a lot of his criticisms did not age well. As if to address this, he later released a review of the arc, even referring it as Super's best arc so far.
    • Mark has expressed regret over making Pokémon: The Devolving Designs, stating he failed to understand designs couldn’t be objectively measured and labeled as good or bad based on its philosophy. His opinion has shifted to the best Pokémon designs being highly subjective, dependent on what generation a person grew up with.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Mark's videos, particularly his Dragon Ball and One Piece ones, have frequently been hit by copyright takedowns by Toei Animation. This reached particularly severe levels in December 2021, when over 100 of his videos got taken down by Toei. However, according to Twitter user, ArmaVerus, it is result of automation by YouTube copyright bots as he pointed out the timing of the 150 videos taken down and the 19 videos being reinstated, all of which happened within seconds. Eventually the issue was resolved with help from Youtube's staff, though not without some caveats and hiccups; since Toei was so utterly uncompromising, and since Japanese copyright law does not recognize the concept of fair use, that the eventual resolution was to just make Mark's content completely unavailable in Japan.
  • Word of God: In his video about copyright strikes, Mark stated that he had worked with Toei Animation in the past for promotions.
