• In Memoriam: "Amazing Grace" is dedicated to the late Andretta Tillman. Tillman served as the group's manager before Beyoncé's father, Mathew Knowles, took over. She passed away in 1997, a year before the release of the group's debut studio album.

• Similarly Named Works: The album's name is similar to that of "Writing's on the Wall", Sam Smith's theme for the James Bond film Spectre.
