Trivia / The Try Guys

Go To

  • The Cast Showoff:
    • Both Eugene and Keith are excellent singers. Eugene did a series for BuzzFeed about mondegreens, and Keith has shown off his singing chops in various Try Guy videos and with his comedy group Lewberger. Especially impressive is him harmonizing with himself in the style of a barbershop quartet in The Try Guys Re-Create Photos of Their Dads.
    • Eugene also has amazing skills as a choreographer and dancer, as well as an eye for cinematography. While there have been some videos focusing on dancing in the past, none show off his skills better than his beautifully detailed and nuanced coming out video.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode:
    • Zach named the Candid Competition series as his favorite.
    • Keith's favorite video is Eugene Gets Surprised With His Worst Nightmare.
    • Ned's favorite videos are The Try Guys Meet Ned's Baby and Eugene Babysits Ned's Baby.
    • Eugene's favorite video is his coming out video: I'm Gay - Eugene Lee Yang.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Zach, Ned and Eugene all named The Barkchshler as their least favourite videos, due to disliking the concept of a dog pageant run by someone who dislikes dogs.
    • During the "Croissants" episode of the 2023 season of Without a Recipe, Zach makes several comments about how nobody watched their Food Network show, Zach himself included. He also notes that they didn't promote it, largely because it was released during the period when Ned's scandal became public along with the ensuing fallout.
  • Missing Episode: Following the news of Ned's scandal becoming public and his subsequent removal from the company, numerous episodes involving him in some capacity were heavily edited; examples include various Without A Recipe videos, where he is edited out or replaced with funny placeholders (such as animated animals). Other videos featuring Ned in a significant capacity that could not be edited in such a way were deemed to be completely unreleasable and will never be published; in addition, all future videos would have no further appearances or direct mentions of Ned.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • In Eugene Ranks The Most Popular Cereals, Jamie, a young boy who is a huge fan of the Try Guys, was Eugene's co-star for the episode.
    • YouTuber Maddy Smith created and posted several compilation/funniest moments videos beginning in 2020. Maddy's videos were noticed by the Try Squad; she was eventually hired to the company and her channel was rebranded Second Try. While still making compilation videos, she now posts behind-the-scenes footage as well.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Ned was removed from the company following a third-party HR investigation revealing he was involved in an extramarital relationship with a co-worker; the Try Guys would later address this in a statement published on 27 September 2022 and a somber video titled what happened.
  • Schedule Slip: On 20 September 2022, they announced that they would be uploading one video per week instead of the usual two videos per week until the end of October.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Before they confirmed that they had secured the trademark on "Try Guys" as the name of their group after leaving Buzzfeed, the guys had come up with other ideas as possible names for their group, like "The Do Dudes" and "Attempt-a-Bros".
    • Zach revealed in an episode of Guilty Pleasures that the Try Guys had been asked to appear on The Amazing Race on behalf of BuzzFeed. It was decided that Eugene and Ned would submit an audition tape however Zach and Keith were also asked to submit one too and subsequently were chosen over the former. After Ned made it clear he was unhappy with the outcome the guys decided that if all of them couldn't appear on the show then none of them would.
