Awesome / The Try Guys

Go To

  • The Try Guys now have their own independent production company and their own channel on YouTube, and we'll still be getting the same kinds of videos that we were getting back when the guys were still working for Buzzfeed.
  • The guys' independent YouTube-channel has only been around since June of 2018, but yet they've already got more than five million subscribers—in an interview done by Heard Well, the guys talk to Xavier Brinkman about how they were able to gain over three million in just three months. The guys claim that at least part of the reason they were able to gain so many subscribers in such a (relatively) short time is that, with having their own company now, they're able to upload videos much more frequently and consistently (they're uploading videos twice a week—every Wednesday and Saturday). When the guys were still working for Buzzfeed, they'd usually only be able upload videos once or twice a month at the most.
    • The Try Guys were able to get five million subscribers within six months of starting their channel, a first on YouTube, which they managed to achieve on New Year's Eve of 2018.
  • There's a few moments in the video where the guys simulate a kidnapping scenario:
    • Just as the guys are "kidnapped" and have bags put over their heads, Ned makes a run for it—he doesn't get very far, but the two men who're doing the simulation with them commend his efforts and note that should this ever happen to someone in real-life, don't be afraid to run away and/or look silly at the first sign of trouble.
    • After the two "kidnappers" leave the guys alone to talk with each other about what to do next, the guys use this as an opportunity to break out of the restraints and make a run for it—this time, they're actually successful and are able to get away from their "kidnappers." At the end of the video, the men doing the simulation note that the guys did very well in what they were doing.
  • After being non-specific about his sexuality for a while, Eugene came out as gay in a beautifully choreographed, truly heartwarming, sad and beautiful video. Awesome, Heartwarming, and Tear Jerker all in one.
  • In the bonus episode of Without a Recipe where the guys make waffle cones, Jamie finally calls out Eugene for continuing to put heavy amounts of alcohol in his creations, despite the known fact that a child was supposed to judge it, by disqualifying him from the competition.
Eugene: What?! You can't disqualify people from this show!
Jamie: Oh really? Because from what I learned from you: "I'm right, you're wrong, shut up!"
Eugene: (laughs)... Ohhh, I guess I deserved that...
  • In the Brownie episode of Without a Recipe after struggling immensely cooking his brownies to the point where at one point they were liquid with a crust, Zach finally breaks the his losing streak by securing his first 1st place ever with his PB&J Brownies to the point where it was such a shutout that the judges agreed during deliberation that they were choosing every place other than first. Also for the first time, one of the guys made something that all the judges unanimously agreed was great. Not "passably edible," not "best" as in "the least horrible." Legitimately delicious.
  • Ned plays to a draw against a chess master (who, to be fair, was playing all four Try Guys simultaneously, blindfolded, with the guys cracking jokes and distracting him the whole time. But still!).
  • Professional pool player Melissa absolutely wipes the floor with the guys in their 4 vs. 1 pool challenge, in which the guys take four turns to her one in each game. Her performance is so dominant that she sets a handicap for herself to even the stakes—having to pocket the balls in ascending numeric order—and still wins handily. The guys only manage to win the fourth of four games because Melissa handicaps herself even further by playing left-handed. Even though she's beating them badly, the guys are blown away by her skill.
    • Eugene turns up sleep-deprived and mildly hung over, having attended a friend's party the night before, and still manages to be the best pool player of the four by some margin.
  • After Ned's removal from the group, the Try Guys editing team demonstrated their talent and commitment by removing him from several already-filmed videos in which he was planned to feature heavily. The editors went above and beyond to make sure the videos could still be great even with intense editing.
    • The second episode of Phoning It In had included Ned as a judge, but in the finished video, the only clue that he had ever been there at all was a split-second reflection of his shirt sleeve in the cloche covering one of the finished dishes—found only by internet sleuths who had already realized something was up and went looking for evidence.
      • On the podcast, Keith says that the FBI and other investigative type organizations should really start recruiting teenage Redditors for their incredibly impressive sleuthing skills and commitment to finding that one single frame of footage with their evidence.
    • An entire season of Without a Recipe involved covering up Ned with a series of increasingly-punny animal animations, with painstakingly-edited audio to eliminate his voice (and his particularly distinctive laugh) and all mentions of his name.
  • In Taking Mushrooms At Super Mario World, Zach goes to the new Mario World at Universal Studios Hollywood, with the goal of ranking first in the leaderboard for the interactive park games. After starting off at #779 at the beginning of the day, by the end of the day he achieves the first place ranking! All the while being high on mushrooms to boot!
