Heartwarming / The Try Guys

Go To

While the Try Guys (both videos and the guys themselves) are mostly funny, there are actually quite a few heartwarming moments —

  • It's really cool that the Try Guys really are friends and not just coworkers who happen to get along well—in quite a few videos where they talk about how they met (such as this recent YouTube-video by Glamour Magazine) and started their series, the guys note how they didn't really know each other that well before making the videos, but through doing so, they've ultimately become very close friends/coworkers.
  • While it's typically Played for Laughs and can get kind of annoying at times, it's really sweet to see how much Ned and his wife, Ariel, love each other and how much Ariel and the other three Try Guys get along with each other. And now Ned and Ariel are finally parents (more info on that below), Ned's perfectly happy to mention their baby whenever he gets the chance.
  • Anytime the Try Guys point out that whatever they're trying is much harder than what people would think, such as in the video where the guys do ballet for the first time (ballet is in fact a lot harder and more physically demanding that what a lot of people think) and express admiration for the people who do that sort of thing.
    • To combine with the first example about Ned and his wife, Ariel, there's a Buzzfeed video (technically not a Try Guys video, though all four of the Try Guys are in it) where Ned and Ariel switch jobs for the day and see what each other's jobs are like—in the end, both Ned and Ariel acknowledge that each other's job is considerably harder than they thought it would be.
  • The guys have two separate series where we meet their parents—the first is a Motherhood-series they did in 2015 (and we meet their moms in the last video of the miniseries) while the second is a Fatherhood-series where we meet the guys' dads. Basically, in both series, the guys experience some of the trials, tribulations and rewards that come with being parents.
    • Combined with Tear Jerker, the fourth part in the five-part Fatherhood-series is where the Try Guys shave their dads' faces and talk about some really personal things in their father-son relationships, especially in the case of Eugene and his dad, Jae—in the end, all four father-son duos tell each other that they love each other and will always be there for each other.
  • In the final part of the three-part Santa Spectacular from 2015, the Try Guys get all dressed up as Santa Claus (even Zach, who's technically Jewish) give children from underprivileged families their dream presents.
  • Ned's wife is pregnant! Ned has mentioned in a lot of the videos how he and Ariel have planned on eventually having kids, and now it's finally happening for them! Ned and Ariel are so happy about finally bringing a baby-Fulmer into the world. Also, in the video, Ned's coworkers (including the other three Try Guys, even Eugene, who isn't exactly a "kid/baby-person") are ecstatic for Ned and Ariel having a baby.
    • Ned and Ariel finally had their baby! A beautiful little boy they named Wesley James Fulmer ("Wes" for short). The video mostly consists of Ned and Ariel explaining the story of their son's birth (namely that he was born roughly a month earlier than expected). Ned and Ariel are so happy about finally being parents and already love their new son so much.
    • Also, the Try Guys (who now have their own independent production company and their own YouTube-channel) did a five-part miniseries called "Parenthood" to help Ned and Ariel prepare for their baby (these were obviously made before Ned and Ariel's son was born). Even Eugene seems happy to help them, even though (as mentioned before) he really doesn't seem all that fond of children—in fact, in the first video of the series, he assures that he really is happy for Ned and Ariel and knows that they're going to be great parents.
    • In the first part of "Parenthood," the Try Guys help Ned and Ariel with their (very non-traditional) "baby shower"/gender-reveal party, which Keith, Zach and Eugene seem very happy to do—Keith's put in charge of food and drinks, Zach's put in charge of games, and Eugene's in charge of decorating the party (especially an "Instagram wall"), and they all seem to have fun with what they're doing. Also at Ned and Ariel's party, it seems that some of the party guests are some of their old coworkers from Buzzfeed.
    • In the fourth part of "Parenthood" (in which the guys recreate when Ariel went into labor with her and Ned's son—all fourteen of it) Ned tells Eugene, Keith and Zach that he and Ariel want them to be a part of Wes's life (presumably outside of the whole "Try Guys" thing), which they're obviously touched by.
    • The fifth (and final) part of Parenthood is a video showing Keith, Zach and Eugene meeting Wes for the first time after he's born (after not having seen Ned for three weeks). Zach and Keith are so excited about finally meeting him—Eugene, though he didn't really show it, also seemed happy to meet Wesley for the first time and, according to Zach and Keith, kept questioning what he should wear upon his first meeting with Wes (which Keith notes is awkward but sweet).
      • Keith was arguably the most excited about meeting Wes, admitting in the video that he sees Wes as a sort of "practice baby" for when he and his own wife, Becky, eventually end up having kids of their own. Also, Ned and Ariel said that of the three Try Guys, they trusted Keith the most.
      • Eugene shares an adorable moment with Wes, as the latter holds onto the former's finger with his tiny hand. It's quite touching, especially when you consider Eugene's nervous and slightly clueless demeanour throughout the video.
  • The Try Guys did a vlog (when they were still working at Buzzfeed) on Keith's wedding to his fiancé, Becky—it's extremely clear through Keith's tearful vows that he's madly in love with Becky (and that she feels the same way). It's also really sweet to see that Keith made the other three Try Guys groomsmen at his wedding—even if he hasn't known them as long as his other friends, it's very touching to see that he considers Ned, Zach and Eugene close enough friends to make them groomsmen at his wedding.
    • Before Keith's wedding, the Try Guys did a video where Ned, Zach and Eugene (some of their other friends and coworkers) took Keith on a trip to Las Vegas for a bachelor party (worth $300,000). While there's certainly a lot of funny moments in the video, it's also very sweet to see Keith's friends do something like that for him—it's also really sweet to see the Try Guys getting along so well with the friends Keith has outside of them and bonding with them.
  • In "The Try Guys Try Not to Die Alone", the boys all seem to spend a lot of time worrying about each other, and are absolutely thrilled when they're reunited. Even Eugene tackles Zach in a giant Bear Hug.
  • In "The Try Guys Get Kidnapped" (they're not actually kidnapped—they're just simulating a kidnapping scenario), Ned's the first of the guys to be interrogated—as Ned's being taken away and is starting to be interrogated, Keith shouts, "No! He has a baby! Take Me Instead!" And after Eugene's interrogated and was able to gather that the "kidnappers" were looking to get money, he immediately felt bad for Ned, especially since he and Ariel were already paying so much money for their new baby.
  • In “Eugene Babysits Ned’s Baby,” Eugene (not 100% voluntarily) has to take care of then-6-month-old Wes for a few hours, and through the thick of it (including a missed nap time, messy eating, and a few big wardrobe malfunctions on Eugene’s part), he always puts Wes’s comfort and needs above his own—and, overall, does a pretty good job of looking after Wes. By the end of the experience, he’s definitely grown more comfortable around Wes.
    • After Ned and Ariel get back from their date, Eugene agrees to babysit Wes in the case of an emergency and also admits that while he's not sure if he feels more connected to Wes (at least not in the same way as Ned and Ariel), he definitely feels very protective of him (Eugene straight-up says that he will murder anyone who tries to hurt Wes).
    • As a sequel to babysitting Wes due to how popular the video was, Eugene babysits the twin daughters of their producer, Rachel. Although still not the most knowledgeable about babies (like not knowing you're not supposed to wake up a baby), he stills cares for them and takes a picture in celebration of their eight-month as their mother has done every month. He admits that he thinks the babies are very sweet and would babysit them again for Rachel (and money).
  • Their video promoting The Trevor Project, a national hotline for LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Zach's video introducing Maggie, his long-term girlfriend. They'd kept their relationship private for a couple of years, even with Zach often being framed as "the perpetually single dweeb" in Buzzfeed and Try Guys videos up until this point. After all the comments he's gotten in the past both from fans and other Try Guys, it's nice to see him be so happy.
  • During the Season 2 finale of "The Barkschler," while he started the series mainly to just poke fun at other people's dogs, Keith ends up getting genuinely attached to the final four, especially Charles Avocado Van Gogh (a corgi with an amputated leg) and Kenny (a former stray pit bull mix).
  • Becky, Ariel, and Maggie (collectively known as the Try Wives/Try Partners until Maggie confirmed her engagement to Zach) are shown to be close, genuine friends, especially in the podcast they host alongside their producer Rachel, "You Can Sit With Us."
  • Much of the "Try Guys Become Zookeepers for a Day" (part of the video series where they go to Australia) is this, as the guys fawn over most of the animals they interact with, and to put a cherry on top, we're introduced to Eugene's boyfriend, Matt!
  • Much of "Keith Transforms Into Eugene's Worst Nightmare (A Chair)" is the buildup and stress of wondering if the prank is going to work out, especially when it's shown that Eugene is in a pretty sour mood due to his frustration over the political primaries. However, once the trap is sprung, despite his claims otherwise Eugene is covering a massive involuntary smile on his face and is clearly holding back laughter while he talks about how angry he is. After a bit he eventually admits that the group "did good" and busts out laughing at Keith wobbling the chair suit's arms around.note
  • Zach managing to win second place in the cake episode of Without A Recipe, ranking him third throughout the whole competition. Zach is ecstatic, near tears, while Ode to Joy plays triumphantly in the background and all the Try Guys and the judges congratulate him happily. Special mention goes to Ned and Eugene, who immediately turn to Zach with huge grins as soon as it's announced.
  • The Try Guys Read Mean & Thirsty YouTube Comments: Right before the episode was filmed, Eugene adopted another rescue dog that he named Kimbop, and then immediately brought the dog with him to the studio to shoot the episode. The sweet pup spends the whole shoot happily sitting/sleeping in Eugene's lap and being petted.
Eugene: I love him to death. Everyone loves him already. He's already everyone's favorite Try Dog. Everyone make a comment below about how much you love Kimbop! Can be sweet, can be thirsty, can't be mean! Look at his face, look at that punim.
  • Ned and Ariel are having another baby! Which means that Wes is going to be an older brother!
  • The day after his 30th birthday, Zach proposed to Maggie and they now engaged, making Maggie a soon-to-be official Try Wife!
  • The "Without a Recipe" video where the Try Guys make brownies is the best that Zach's ever done in a video for that series—he got 1st-place for his PB&J-brownie. He was obviously shocked/ecstatic about it and the rest of the Try Guys were also clearly happy for him—all three of the judges and the other three Try Guys absolutely loved the brownie Zach made.
  • Doubles as a Tearjerker: in the lie detector video featuring the siblings of the Try Guys, Stephanie (Zach's sister) asks her brother if he's ever resented her or the fact that she inherited the "healthier part of [their] gene pool" (referring to his painful/difficult autoimmune condition). Zach immediately and (as verified by the polygraph) truthfully assures his sister that he's never felt that way—in fact, he's actually really happy that his sister doesn't have to go through what he has to with his medical condition.
  • In "The Try Guys Make Donuts Without a Recipe," Zach badly burns his hand picking up a hot pan straight out of the oven without an oven mitt. Eugene promptly steps in to help Zach finish frying and decorating his donuts.
    • Ned also offers to help guest contestant Kwesi, so that Zach doesn't get an unfair advantage over him.
  • In "The Try Guys Make Macarons Without a Recipe," guest contestants Rome and Cam (who of course have no clue whatsoever how to make macarons) determining their recipes based on guest judge Zach's food intolerances.
  • In "The Try Guys Make Cheesecake Without a Recipe," Keith finally wins an episode with his "daddy's favorite" cinnamon raisin flavor combination.
    • The judge also announces that Keith won by proclaiming that "daddy's home!"
  • In "The Try Guys Bake Mac and Cheese Without a Recipe," Eugene's mac and cheese balls featuring real balls (cooked bull testicles) don't go over well with the judges—Zach immediately jumps in to defend Eugene, saying that he had put a good deal of work into preparing the meat and trying to optimize its challenging flavor and texture. While Eugene doesn't succeed, Zach makes sure to point out that he did try.
  • In "Try Guys Bake Cinnamon Rolls Without a Recipe," guest judge Josh declaring himself the official hype man for Lodge Bread Co., when the other judges (the owners and chefs at said Lodge Bread Co.) modestly gloss over the cinnamon rolls they serve at their restaurant. Josh proclaims these cinnamons rolls the best in Los Angeles.
  • During the "what happened" video, Zach reveals that there are videos that cost a lot of money that are never going to be released because of Ned's involvement. Nevertheless, they are willing to take the loss if it means remaining true to what the company stands for. Zach also takes a moment to commend the editors for working on videos to remove Ned from them.
    • Keith mentions that they are working on creating a safe environment for the employees that are still working for their company. He also states that they are innocent parties and do not deserve vitriol for what has happened.
    • Eugene at one points brings up that many commenters on the internet tend to be much more harsher towards women than towards men, particularly in these situations, and urges the fandom to act with kindness. While it is most likely Eugene was referring to holding the female employee accountable but not treating her with cruelty, it's likely that he was also referring to remaining respectful of Ariel as well as of any decision she chooses regarding herself and Ned.
      • Keith and Zach continue this sentiment in the podcast addressing the aftermath, making it very clear that aside from Ned no one involved should have to go through the more traumatic effects of being caught up in a publicized scandal.
    • Doubles as Awesome: the amount of effort the editors put into scrubbing Ned from the upcoming season of Without a Recipe. The guys (and the fans) love Without a Recipe, and the editors moved heaven and earth to make sure it could be released.
  • In "The Try Guys Perform on Broadway for the First Time" Keith is selected to have a small, non-speaking role in the musical Beetlejuice as Mover #3. Despite that, at curtain call, the cast pulls Keith center stage and have the audience cheer for him as if he were the star. Keith is so shocked and touched by that gesture that he is moved to tears of joy.
    • In the lead-up to his scene, the viewer is also shown interactions Keith has backstage with the cast and crew. One would expect them to consider him The Load as an internet personality whose role in their production as as an outside, but no! They're all extremely friendly and supportive of him, with their interactions being bouncing jokes off his and encouraging him with advice. Alex Brightman in particular shares his pre-show rituals with Keith and in return Keith gives Alex, a noted hot sauce enthusiast, a case of his own hot sauce. Alex is legitimately touched by the gesture and even gives the sauce a ringing endorsement as Betelgeuse.
  • In "Try Guys 60-Minute Thanksgiving Challenge": Zach prepares a Thanksgiving-themed causa, a traditional dish from his fiancee Maggie's Peruvian culture. Judges Josh and Nicole rave about how delicious it is, and Zach pulls off a rare victory in a cooking competition. For all of Zach's ineptitude in the kitchen (some of which is admittedly an act played up for the cameras, but the man has made borderline poison in previous videos while trying his best to make something good), he clearly cared enough to learn how to make a dish that's important to his partner's culture, and knew how to do it well.
    • In the same video, when asked to share something he's thankful for, Keith says that he's thankful for the fans (after his friends and family, of course).
  • The entirety of "Try Guys Throw Zach's Dream Bachelor Party." It's absolutely zany, but you can tell how much effort is being put in to create a great time that's tailor-made for Zach.
    • In particular, there's the moment when everyone's at the sound bath, and Keith tells one of Zach's groomsmen, Gio, to try out the sound bowls with the logic that "I get cool experiences all the time." It's sweet seeing how he's making an effort to make everyone feel included— doubly so when considering Keith has said on the podcast that bringing in more people is a new goal for the Try Guys.
  • The livestream series "Eat With Keith" was started as a response to many Eat the Menu fans, particularly those with eating disorders, saying that Eat The Menu has helped them through food issues.
  • Everyone celebrating Jonny's win (his first-ever win—in any baking competition, not just Try Guys challenges) in "Phoning It In: Butter". Keith, who competed against Jonny, is cheering and fist-pumping when it's announced.
  • Everything in regards to Zach and Maggie's wedding as well as just seeing everyone having the time of their lives in Mexico to celebrate the newlyweds. After all the drama, stress, and an injury that threatened both the wedding and Zach's leg they more than deserve the happiness.
    • Keith being the one to officiate the wedding, and before that Eugene's "scientifically proven" presentation on why Zach and Maggie were made for each other (mixes with Funny).
  • The first video of the Zaggie wedding series talks about Zach's leg injury and how all throughout Maggie was Zach's caretaker and used her nursing knowledge to help him during the healing process. Them goofing around a bit in the hospital was also a sweet sight to see.
