Trivia / The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)

• Disowned Adaptation: Of a softer sort than most cases: Audrey Niffenegger (the original book's author) expressed no interest in watching the movie when it came out or any time afterwards. Her reasons are less to do with quality, and rather because the book and her characters were so intimate and personal to her that once other people started working on their own versions, they no longer felt like "hers" anymore. In her words, "I'm happy when people like the movie, but it isn't the book."
• Dyeing for Your Art: After filming was done, Eric Bana started filming Star Trek (2009), which required him to shave his head. However, re-shoots for this movie were needed, so production was put on hold so Bana's hair could grow out.
• Real-Life Relative: Tatum McCann's sister Hailey plays her character Alba as a preteen who tells Henry that not only she has inherited Henry's time-traveling genes but also that Henry will die when she's five years old.
• Release Date Change: It took so long to grow Eric Bana's hair back for reshoots that the movie's release date was pushed back by nearly a year.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The film was originally going to star Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, who bought the filming rights to Niffenegger's novel before it was released to the public. However, the real life dissolution of their marriage (and subsequent legal settlement) scrapped the plan. David Fincher, Steven Spielberg and Gus Van Sant were considered to direct.
  • Adrien Brody was the author's first choice for Henry, while Lauren Ambrose was her choice for Clare.
  • Eva Green campaigned for the role of Clare.
