- Box Office Bomb: The late '60s was not a great time for musicals in general. Doctor Dolittle, Camelot, and Hello, Dolly! all flopped, and The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band didn't buck the trend.
- Genre-Killer: The failure of this movie, along with The Happiest Millionaire the year before, convinced Disney to give up on purely live-action musicals for a while. In the '70s, Disney released only two live-action musicals, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Pete's Dragon, both of which used the Roger Rabbit Effect in an effort to recapture that Mary Poppins magic.
- What Could Have Been: Originally planned as a two-part episode of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color.
- Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first met on the set of this movie.
