Trivia / The Olden Days

  • Approval of God: John Waters (1948) and Brendon Lunney responded positively to the sketches (after some initial confusion when someone apparently yelled "Frontbottom!" at Lunney soon after he returned to Australia). This led to some Parody Assistance when the two appeared on the season final of The Late Show (1992) and turned the Gag Dub back on Mick Molloy and Tony Martin.
  • Disowned Adaptation: Olivia Hamnett, who played Sarah Lucas in Rush (1974), objected to the sketches to the point of forcing the Late Show team to leave "Caroline" out of the later episodes, which created some difficulties in editing. In the audio commentary, Tony Martin reveals that he had to write her a cheque for $3000 for the sketch in episode 10, and considers it Worth It for the chicken impression joke.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Santo and Tony admitted in the audio commentary that they wrote the sketches with very little knowledge of what Rush was actually about (ie, the dynamic between Commissioner Fitzalan and Sergeant McKeller). They also made a point of never listening to the actual soundtrack until after they had recorded the dub, and were rather disappointed by Brendon Lunney's actual portrayal of Fitzalan.
