- Acting for Two: Aside from the obviousnote , there's Virginia Madsen (who plays both Walter's wife and Fingerling's girlfriend, Fabrizia), Danny Huston (as Isaac French and Dr. Miles Phoenix) and Lynn Collins (who plays the "Suicide Blonde", Walter's childhood neighbor Mrs. Dobkins, and Young Fingerling's mother). The same actor (Paul Butcher) also plays both Walter and Fingerling as a child.

- After the failure of this film, Joel Schumacher was relegated to independent and/or direct-to-video films.
- It was the first and last film written by Fernley Phillips. He was attached to the British film U Want Me 2 Kill Him? sometime afterward, but his script was eventually discarded.
- The Other Darrin: Together with Batman Forever, this is the only other film since Ace Ventura where Emmanuel Curtil hasn't dubbed Jim Carrey in French. He was replaced by Thierry Hancisse.
- Playing Against Type: Jim Carrey has played dramatic characters before, but this is one of his rare forays into tragedy.
