  • Approval of God: The fan animation of the seppuku scene in Issue One was given high praise from Tom Waltz.
  • Demand Overload: The comic's first issue immediately sold out, and needed a second run just to fulfill the high number of preorders. Also, the second issue currently holds the record for IDW's highest selling single issue comic. The comic's hardcover collection also quickly sold out, and became a New York Times bestseller.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The premise is based on an idea Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird outlined way back in 1987.
  • Schedule Slip: The Lost Years was initially slated to start during Fall 2022, but was moved to January 2023.
  • What Could Have Been: Kevin Eastman implies that the story was initially conceived as a possible ending for the Mirage comics, before the franchise blew up into the Cash-Cow Franchise it is now, and the idea was shelved. When it was finally revisited, it was retooled into an Elseworlds story instead. Tom Waltz mentioned that he was grateful for being able to put his own personal touch on the concept, so what the story would have looked like without his involvement is a mystery.
