Trivia / Tales of the Hunger Games

  • California Doubling: Christian typically uses pictures of real-life locations to double for arenas, tweeting where that picture was taken (without specifically saying the location's name) along with the tribute names for the upcoming Hunger Games. The only exceptions were the 81st, 90th, 91st, and 100th (Grand Final) where it was Andrew Maclaine who created those arenas. Examples include:
    • The Amphitheatre of El Jem as the Capitol amphitheatre for the 1st-10th Hunger Games, the 76th/Reclamation Games, and the District Two preliminaries of the 100th Hunger Games.
    • The Grand Prismatic Spring as Brutus's "hot spring" arena.
    • Mount Nicholson as Bluebell Janssen's mansion and film studio as seen in the 77th, 83rd, 85th, and aftermath of the District Five preliminaries of the 100th Games.
    • HMP Berwyn as the prison arena in the 96th Hunger Games.
    • Ivanpah Solar Power Facility as the Coriolanus I during the District Five preliminaries of the 100th Games.
    • The Gavea Tourist Hotel as "The Forest Factory", the arena for the District Eight preliminaries of the 100th Hunger Games.
    • Hang Son Doong as "The Diamond Lakes", the arena for the District One preliminaries of the 100th Hunger Games.
  • He Also Did: Following the conclusion of Tales, Christian is currently working on a RuPaul's Drag Race alternative universe series that throws the All-Stars 2 cast into the All-Stars 3 universe titled The Alternative Runiverse.
  • In Memoriam: The narrated version of Mags's Hunger Games briefly ends with a tribute to Lynn Cohen, the actress who played Mags in Catching Fire. It has a photograph of her with "RIP Lynn Cohen 1933-2020" below.
  • Real-Life Relative: Christian's niece, Freya, makes an appearance at the end of the series, where she plays the role of Arabella Snow, the daughter of the narrator who's being read the stories of all the past Hunger Games.
  • Tuckerization:
    • Most of the Catching Fire Victors who were fully or partially unnamed were given names based on their actors to fill in the blanks. Justified by Christian because those were the names that showed up on the Victors' podiums on the Mockingjay set.
    • Freya and Ava got their first names from Christian's nieces.
    • Linnet Laurier got her last name from Lauren "Laurier-Rose", a friend of Christian who has contributed heavily to the TOTHG fandom. Some of her known accomplishments include managing the TOTHG Discord server, creating Victory Tour posters for Christian's characters, helping write the respective plots for three of the series's post-Reclamation Hunger Gamesnote , and "continuing" the series beyond the first 100 Hunger Games by writing Panem Reborn.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Christian mentions in a YouTube comment that the final scene of the 85th Hunger Games was supposed to be an underwater fight in a swimming pool on top of Bluebell’s mansion. Was scrapped for a fight in a movie theatre playing clips from past Hunger Games.
Christian: “I remember playing around with that final scene for a while and knew what was going to happen, but couldn't work out where it would happen, with it originally being an underwater fight in a swimming pool, then taking place on the roof of the mansion, but eventually settled on a location that could pay homage to past games!
    • Christian also mentions on his personal Twitter that the weapons featured the District Eleven preliminaries for the 100th Hunger Games were supposed to be hoes instead of rakes.
Christian: Only half-way through last week's story did I switch the weapons from hoes to rakes, as I knew there was no way I'd be able to read the whole thing with a straight face whilst talking about people using hoes to kill each other 🤣 Rolling on the floor laughing #talesofthehungergames
  • Word of God:
    • Christian tends to release some additional facts about his series a couple times on his Reddit and Twitter.
      • District Five's tribute colour is silver, this being brought up before the 100th Hunger Games.
      • Linus (93rd Hunger Games) and Ignea (97th Hunger Games) are also part of the Dalton family.
      • Ross is happily living with his family after the European forces liberate District Fourteen following the District Six 100th Hunger Games preliminaries.
      • Silico Jones (21st Hunger Games) is the child who Silica Jones (3rd Hunger Games Victor) had.
      • Rue, Crimson, and Gale's fates are unknown following The Battle of District Twelve, but they're presumed to be fine.
      • Six of the tributes competing in the District Two preliminaries for the 100th Hunger Games are from the Dalton family.
      • Glitch (District 3 Female Victor-Tribute of the 100th Hunger Games) is of average height, has mid-length black hair that were initially in plaits during the reaping, and has pale freckled skin.
    • Lauren "Laurier-Rose", the co-writer of the 82nd Hunger Games, confirmed in a YouTube comment that Linnet is asexual.
    • On Glitch being "real": The "real" Glitch died during the post-Games shootings, with the Capitol killing off Electress because they didn't want a rebellious tribute competing. The "Glitch" that competed in the Grand Final is an unnamed Capitolian girl who looks very similar to her. The Capitol held her family hostage, gave her an education on who Glitch was, and told her that if she won as "Glitch", she'd be able to return back to her family.
    • The unnamed narrator's name is Coriolanus Snow VI.
