- Billing Displacement: Despite being first-billed, Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino only appear in the last 20 minutes of the movie.
- Celebrity Voice Actor: In the Japanese dub, the Toymaker is voiced by karateka/kickboxer Nobuaki Kakuda.
- The Danza: The Toymaker's real name is Sebastian, voiced in the Latin dub by Sebastián Llapur.
- Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Ricardo Montalbán was actually a wheelchair user. Robert Rodriguez specifically wrote the role of Grandpa for him. This is likely why his entire game body (except his face) is CGI, while the other actors wear costumes.
- Dolled-Up Installment: The film was originally a stand-alone film about kids going into a video game, not related to the Spy Kids series of films at all.
- DVD Commentary: By Robert Rodriguez.
- Dye Hard: Courtney Jines has blonde hair, but as Demetra she has dark brown hair.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The 3D version on DVD went out of print after Lionsgate purchased most of the Miramax library and wasn't released on Blu-ray until 2012, over a year after the film's initial Blu-ray release.
- Real-Life Relative
- Robert Rodriguez' son Rocket can be seen when Juni walks into OSS, shortly after discovering what happens in "Game Over".
- Bill Paxton's son, James Paxton, plays Dinky Winks Jr.
- Scully Box: In the shot where Elijah Wood is kneeling down, talking to the others, he is actually looking at the ground to give the impression that he is towering over everybody.
- So My Kids Can Watch: Sylvester Stallone said in an interview that he asked his kids about the previous movies and if he should accept the role in the third installment.
