  • Artist Disillusionment: Zig-Zagged in a sense. Rob doesn't regret his work nor is he unsatisfied with it, but being a YouTuber has been one for him due to YouTube's recent policies and the complete demonitization of his work, to the point where he constantly lashes (rightfully so) on Twitter at YouTube's treatment of their content creators and favoring more popular branded users. This was pretty summarized in his Facebook (and later on Tumblr) open letter "I Am No Longer a YouTuber."
  • Executive Meddling: Part of Rob's disillusionment with YouTube was the fact that his videos were getting flagged because they contained the word "dyke," a pejorative slur for a lesbian woman, even though "Dyke" is Rob's last name. He legally changed his last name to Gavagan to avoid a repeat of this.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Deep Web episode. It was uploaded but then taken down from Rob's channel a few hours later. According to one uploader of the original video, 8chan took offense at Rob putting them on the list and attempted to doxx him. The official story (for the most part) from Rob's Twitter however states he removed the video due to major inaccuracies regarding certain websites note .
    • The original version of his video on disturbing YouTube was, ironically, taken down for disturbing content. It was re-uploaded a month later with censors, but the original cannot be found.
  • Tom Hanks Syndrome: Before launching Seriously Strange, Rob's videos were decidedly more humorous and the show itself had several instances of Deadpan Snarker. However, the increasingly bleak stories featured on the show led to Rob abandoning a comedic format for the rest of his videos, causing him to cancel Why Would You Put That on the Internet? (also under the feeling that the stupidity was causing him a mental breakdown) and Social Autopsy.
    • He later on showed regret over changing this type of format, as seen in his first "Answering Your Question" video, feeling that, as an entertainer, he wants to make people laugh, which he decided to format this in his "ZOMBIE HORSE" channel. However, Why Would You Put That On The Internet? has returned, since the break from the series caused Rob to realize how much he loved making it after all.
  • Retool: Beginning in 2019, the show changed focus from retrospective creepy content to alleged true stories submitted by viewers.
  • Schedule Slip: Rob posts new episodes, but they have been less frequent since YouTube demonetized his channel — along with many others covering the true horror/crime genre — in 2017.
  • Screwed by the Network: Rob’s content has regularly been targeted by YouTube for not being advertiser friendly (as well as whatever new thing they plan on punishing YouTubers with), to the point that one of the reasons why he changed his surname was because YouTube was using it as an excuse to demonetize his videos.
