Trivia / SMPRonpa

Go To

  • Approval of God: Several SMPLive members read and enjoyed, or were at least amused, by the fic.
    • Angel was loudly in support of the fic on Twitter while it was being published, and showed it to other members.
    • Sneeg did a whole fake "serious stream" parodying the drama when the fic resurfaced, and said that he thought the fic was fine.
    • Poke also did a stream about the fic when it resurfaced, reading it and humorously commenting on what happens. While he makes fun of the amateur writing, it's largely light-hearted and he jokingly calls it "peak fiction" at the end.
  • Bury Your Art: The fic was lost media for years as it was immediately deleted in 2019 following Carson's complaints and the subsequent harassment the author received.
  • Distanced from Current Events: In Poke's stream reading the fic in 2024, due to Carson being exposed as a sext pest in 2021, he replaces Carson's name throughout the fic with his friend Yahi instead.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: For years, only small snippets of the fic survived and were circulated by fans, until the fic was finally found in 2024.
  • Line to God: The fic had an official Twitter account in 2019 where the author interacted with fans (and streamers).
  • Referenced by...: Several streamers who were in the fic would go on to make references to it over the years, such as an infamous clip where Wilbur Soot says he wants to hit Charlie over the head with a guitar and shove him into a freezer.
  • Short-Lived, Big Impact: SMPRonpa started in late 2019, likely October at the earliest, and only lasted until December before being taken down. Despite this, it had a huge impact on the culture of the MCYT fandom for years to come.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things:
    • SMPRonpa was singled out and used as an example of inappropriate fan behavior that made Carson and his friends uncomfortable in the 2019 serious stream, leading to harassment against the author and the fic being taken down.
    • In hindsight, it turns out that Carson was the only one to have ever taken actual issue with the fic existing — as nothing has been found to this day where anyone else mentions being uncomfortable with it, and Sneeg himself confirmed that only Carson really had an issue — and the harassment is now seen largely as an example of what happens when creators get too involved in fandom happenings and "call out" individual fans.
