Trivia / Smosh

  • Creator Backlash:
    • Towards the movie. Anthony apparently doesn't like it, if the comment he left on I Hate Everything's review of the movie is any indication. The sketch "We Summoned a Demon!" made after his return notably features Ian using it as a torture device, which implies it has become something of an old shame for the channel as a whole.
    • In their 2023 Wired Autocomplete Interview, Anthony expressed distaste for one of their earliest (and the number 1 most viewed) Smosh video "Beef n Go", which he admitted he thought was "pretty mid".
  • Distanced from Current Events: Part one of "A SMOSHY CHRISTMAS!" was pulled shortly after its release on December 14, 2012 due to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurring that same day. In a video informing viewers about the video's removal, Ian and Anthony singled out the scene where Ian shoots a man dead with a shotgun and states that "that's what guns are for," feeling that it was too uncomfortable to keep up in the wake of the massacre. The video would be reuploaded three days later with no edits.
  • The Character Died with Him: Because of Charlie's death, there have been no more live appearances of the guinea pig. Archival footage is still used occasionally though.
  • Hostility on the Set: According to Boze in an interview, Boze dealt with workplace bullying and felt like an outcast in Smosh. Boze kept to herself and was pretty awkward around others but the other members rarely spoke to her (she apparently got a message on her birthday from one person just to update her on the business) and felt belittled by Courtney Miller, Olivia Sui, and Shayne Topp (citing how they all attended a party but never bothered to invite her). Boze admits the relationship between her and the cast members has improved significantly but she still utterly hates Matt Raub for bullying her.
  • Orphaned Reference: "GAMER GETS TROLLED" having its title changed to "HOW TO ANNOY A GAMER" results in its Couch Gag becoming a non-sequitur.
A troll? Like, the one that lives under a bridge?
  • The Other Darrin: Ian's mom in "That's Hot!" is very obviously played by a much younger woman.
  • What Could Have Been: After the dissolution of their previous parent company Defy, a number of companies offered to buy Smosh. One of these offers was from a media company from Thailand, which intended to start a Thai version of Smosh with a new Thai cast. However, Smosh was eventually bought by Rhett & Link instead.
