Trivia / Rogue Legacy

  • Ascended Fanon: The Lament of Zors was originally a fan-made Game Mod, but later imported by Cellar Door Games as a free content update for the Steam version of the game.
  • Blooper: When Booyan is hosting the dagger-throwing minigame, his dialogue says you'll be limited to 10 daggers to break 8 targets. However, you actually receive 12 daggers to throw.
  • Inspiration for the Work: Cellar Door Games took inspiration from the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls titles. However, the design was often compared to Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac in terms of rogue-likes that eventually make the game easier and forgiving thanks to permanent progression.
  • Sleeper Hit: The development costs for the game were approximately $15,000 and Cellar Door Games managed to earn them back within an hour of releasing Rogue Legacy. It also managed to sell more than 100,000 copies within the first week. An in-game Easter Egg in the form of paintings narrates how the team went on with lesser successful titles before deciding to make this one.
  • What Could Have Been: Several features were planned but scrapped in order to streamline the game's release, such as an Experience Points system.
