Trivia / Reflections Lost on a Dark Road

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: Word of God states that Jinx suddenly being able to elicits any kind of response (other than laughter), when she elbows Ryoga she is using her power to add extra oomph (such as the cut to his cheek, which would be pretty much impossible for someone to do with a slap under normal conditions as well).
    • He’s also used Rule of Funny and alien sympathizers to explain her sudden Super-Strength
    • Given Lathis pension for inflicting Plot Induced Stupidity on Ranma many people felt that the brother eye protocol was this for the Brushogun arc as it really gave Ranma the credit they felt he deserved.
    • averted for the most part as Word of God usually makes the characters look like more of a Designated Hero. For example Lathis claims that Cyborg and the rest of the Titan’s truly believe that Ryoga and Jinx love each other. However the fact that it’s known that Jinx was manipulated into loving Ryoga makes this fact very disturbing. Also we are told that Raven’s actions in Azerath were key to getting them home. However the reason she didn’t tell the X-Com characters what she was doing was shown as a combination being Ungrateful Bastard and Small Name, Big Ego.
    • This is played straight just as much such as the recon of Ryoga being the one to tell Raven about the Love Rod incident not Ranma, as given their relationship joking about it made her come across as hypocritical.
    • Word of God claiming that Jinx is using her powers anytime she displays signs of having superstrength such as any time she hits Ryouga and actually elicits any kind of response (other than laughter).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • It was initially planned for Jinx's powers to get increasingly unstable.
    • because of the various fanart of the characters as Red Lanterns (Ryougas) and Orange Lanterns (Nabiki) and Yellow Lanterns (Ryu or Mousse maybe?) or the like various rings to multiple characters nearly happened
    • There was actually a rough plot hashed out that would land the three teams in the Justice Lords dimension (After the Justice League episodes, so with an entirely new ballgame going on). It would have been pretty awesome, but along with some inherent problems, it would have needed to be even longer than the Space Hulk arc just to do it proper justice. So, sadly it will need to stay on the cutting room floor before it ever even hits the drawing board.
  • Word of God: There is no Sectoid Hierarchy in the DCAU, Ethereals do not exist in their atrophied forms, things like Chryssalids and Mutons were never genetically engineered. Etc.
    • However this is partly addressed in the recently closed arc. One of the Green Lanterns (and in fact, a senior and well respected Lantern), specifically the one that died deep within Heresiarch, bore an uncanny resemblance to Sectoids. A resemblance that is remarked on for good reason. Though not stated definitely to be so, there could be a pre-Sectoid race within DC (the Greys). However, it would be the distant precursor stock to the Sectoids and Aquatoids we know. Perhaps, in the distant past between 65 and 100 million years ago, the Grey Race were prevented from undergoing the racial transformation or progrom that made them what they are in X-COM. If that divergence was caused by Green Lanterns, who do not exist in DC... well. It wouldn't be entirely unsupported.
    • The biggest problem with just "zapping" Akari and curing her is that it would still KILL her. Granted, she is slowly dying anyway while under a Mind Shield (just like Mutons and Ethereals, she is a "fully realized" alien and can not survive disconnect from the Mind), but it would both put her back at square one and also make her a compromised research subject. This is compounded by the fact that Seiran is in a dispute with other UNETCO facilities over holding her in the first place (hence the compromise of Europe and Russia sending scientists over to Japan).
    • Jyusenkyou is a result of a malfunctioning Synodium Device. This is what Zraz (a Snakeman Commander) believed it to be. However, we never see this Synodium Device, and the Cydonian aliens either didn't know of it, or avoided it until recently. We also know that the aliens had molecular control 65-plus million yrs ago, since R'leth had it, and she was a sister ship to T'leth.
