  • Nurse Jackson has the same last name as Octavia Spencer's most famous character.

• The Cast Showoff:
  • Nolan Sotillo (Jordi) is a talented musician, with several music videos on YouTube. Several scenes have him showcasing his talents.
  • Thomas Ian Nicholas, who plays Charlie's dad, is also a musician.

• Follow the Leader: There have been accusations of the show being a cheap attempt to cash in on the popularity of The Fault in Our Stars, though it could just as easily be pointed out that the show is based on a series which predates that book by a year and the show was picked up before the success of the movie.
• Screwed by the Network: FOX pitted the show against more popular shows such as Modern Family and Criminal Minds due to the pilot testing well with audiences, severely damaging the show ratings. Indeed, it was canceled after only 13 episodes, with the final three episodes being doled out to Saturday nights.
