Trivia / RPG Maker

Go To

  • Ascended Fan Nickname: The name RPG Maker had been popularized by pirates before being adopted by Enterbrain themselves.
  • Licensed Game: The Rising of the Shield Hero: Relive The Animation is a notable example of RPG Maker adaptation developed by Kadokawa, which is based on a light novel and anime series of the same name.
  • Machinima: Distortion marks the first feature-length film/machinima to produce with RPG Maker MV engine, created by Studio Moonchalk in 2023; despite its short length with 45 minutes for a feature film, and the use of non-narrative and cinematic elements.
  • No Export for You: RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 hadn't been released outside of Japan until 2015, while RPG TsukÅ«ru Dante 98 and RPG Maker 95 remain exclusive to Japan.
  • Schedule Slip: Unite has seen several delays for its release date ever since it was announced. It was originally scheduled for a 2023 release, but has been delayed to an unspecified later date for unspecified reasons.
  • Sequel First: RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003 were finally released worldwide the same year as RPG Maker MV, long after the worldwide releases of XP, VX and VX Ace. And even among the two, 2003 was released before 2000. The sequel of MV continues with MZ and its Unity-based RM engine in 2020s.
  • The Anime of the Game: Some games were adapted into anime only produced in Japan including Angels of Death, Ao Oni, and Corpse Party. The anime film of To the Moon is also in development, with creator Kan Gao supervises his script.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: For a very long time, the same piracy that made western audiences familiar with the series made Enterbrain reluctant to release it outside of Japan, especially with several vocal minorities specifically objecting to paying for the software they perceived should be free. Thankfully, no longer the case.
