- Disowned Adaptation: Of a sort, since Balagueró wasn't actually involved in making this version. He initially described it as "impossible to like" because it was so similar to his original production except for the explanation of the plague, but later said he didn't really know how to feel about it. Plaza, on the other hand, only said he was grateful to the American version for giving theirs more exposure.
- Enforced Method Acting: Jennifer Carpenter did this to herself. During production, the cast was shown the original Spanish movie, which of course thoroughly creeped them out. Carpenter then asked that she not be shown the penthouse before she was due to shoot anything in it as she didn't want to know where anything was in the film's climax.
- Recycled Script:
- Quarantine is identical to [REC] besides being set in Los Angeles instead of Barcelona.
- Quarantine 2 largely follows the same blueprint (Developing Doomed Characters, Patient Zero making the responders Zombie Infectees, Quarantine with Extreme Prejudice, Hazmat Suits come in and quickly lose control due to Zombie Infectees and a Killer Rabbit, The Reveal about The Virus' nature, a Hope Spot plan to escape, the main characters using night vision and fighting the Final Boss in a dark, secluded area). The main difference is that it is set in a plane and airport's back area instead of an apartment building.
- What Could Have Been: Javier Botet was asked to reprise his role as the final monster but couldn't get a working visa in time. He was replaced by Doug Jones.
