Trivia / Princess: The Hopeful

  • Creative Differences: A Downplayed example. Arguments between the two primary authors of the game ultimately led to the gameline being split into two versions: Vocation and Dream. Each version slightly tweaks the emphasis of the theme to a degree — the Dream version places more emphasis on the mundane world, with Princesses integrated into mortal society and doing their work through pre-existing organizations like Greenpeace rather than creating their own "Princess Organizations", whilst the Vocation version has entire organizations of Princesses called "Camaraderies", analoguous to Consillia. There's also more of a war story theme to Vocation, whilst Dream concerns itself with answering the question "what does an idealistic soul like you do when you gain access to magical powers born of hope"?. The biggest difference is mostly a matter of mechanics, exemplified in the concept of the "Echo" ability of Princesses; Vocation makes it a controllable power, akin to a vampire's predatory aura, whilst in Dream Echoes take effect if a Princess acts according to her virtue or betrays it.
  • What Could Have Been: Amanojaku were originally going to be just a form of strange dream parasites, but it was eventually decided to make them black magic-practicing Dreamlanders. This is referenced in their entry, where it's mentioned Princesses used to believe they were the former before learning their actual origin.
  • Word of Saint Paul: The supplement describing the pre-Twilight Queens technically wasn't written by the authors of Princess: the Hopeful, but they did provide outlines of who the Twilight Queens used to be.
